how many pre schools/day cares did you visit before you decided?

I've been to one so far and I really like it. they only have 2 spots available but I thought I should at least check out a few more.

problem is, I don't think I am going to like any other as much and I don't want these two spots to get taken and then I am left with nothing. Chat Icon

not sure what to do.

we only looked at 2 or 3. we loved the first one and hated the rest. we actually gave a deposit to the first one when we were there, knowing that we'd lose it if we ended up liking it somewhere else but we wanted to hold the spot

You definitely should visit a few more- just to compare. When we were looking for daycare for DD, we went with the first place we saw- but I also visited like 5-6 other places- and all of them paled in comparison to the first place you saw!

Re: how many pre schools/day cares did you visit before you decided?

I loved the first one that I visited too- I visited one more just to make sure- and I still ended up going with the first one

It wasnt a waste of time at all- it helped me clarify that that was the best center for us Chat Icon

the deposit is $450. I don't want to lose that much money. Chat Icon

thanks girls. I'll just have to Chat Icon that it's still there if I need it.

Re: how many pre schools/day cares did you visit before you decided?

If I were you, I'd visit another one just for comparison. I'm sure you probably went to the one that is most convenient for you first so if you love it, go for it!

When I was looking for daycares, I hated all the ones I visited and the 2 I liked were in the opposite direction and would have added 30-45 minutes to my commute each day. I probably visited 10 daycares and we ultimately did not even go the daycare route.

I plan to visit about 5 preschools for DS. We just need to figure out where we are going to be living so I can start my list.

We looked at 2. They were completely different.

I liked them both and originally chose the second place we visited, which was an inhome place but, the spot was no longer available.

We put a deposit with the first place, a large center, and I'm so happy we did. DS is a lot happier there than he would've been in the inhome place (there are 3 good-sized rooms between 6w and 18 months as opposed to one small room with 8 kids in this age range in it) and they have late hours to accomodate my commute.

Re: how many pre schools/day cares did you visit before you decided?

I've seen 4 in total; 3 of them I saw twice.

I think you should go with your gut.

When I was pregnant with DD I went to look at the first 3 and chose to go with a babysitter (aka the babysitter from hell). I stumbled on the 4th one randomly while I was with said babysitter.. and when things became unbearable, we visited the 4th one a second time before going with them.

Now 2.5 years later it's time to move on from that day care. I went to visit 2 of the 3 original day cares and my feelings were exactly the same - loved one, hated the other. We're starting with the one we love (obviously) on Monday.

actually, no. it's the least convenient and the more expensive, but it has some amenities that I really like.

the other one I have an appt for is closer to my house and cheaper, but I just don't think I am going to like it as much.

Re: how many pre schools/day cares did you visit before you decided?

I visited 4....
1) Hated the first one (felt it was dirty and didn't like the fact that the teacher barely spoke English - I want my son to have a better model if he's going to spend 8+ hrs a day with someone)

2) Loved the second one - but their hours didn't work with our schedule

3) Loved the third one for when DS is older, but didn't like it for the young, infant stage

4) Loved the one we picked for now - will keep it this way until he's a little older then switch to the other place. (#3)

If there were more options nearby, we would've visited them all! Don't let the fact that there are only 2 slots open. You have plenty of time before stressing about it. No one is really looking to book now anyway - it's the summer time that people are booking most because school starts again in Sept. You have time!

I looked at about 5 and I knew which one was right for my son right from the beginning. You get that gut feeling...so if you like this one, go for it, but its always good to have something else to compare it against.

Same here. Mine was a preschool too, so it was just for 3 mornings a week. I would have had different standards, more questions, and would have probably checked out a lot more places had I been looking for daycare.

Re: how many pre schools/day cares did you visit before you decided?

We looked at 3, but there really aren't many in my area to choose from. They were all SO different, I was really glad I had seen a few so I knew what the differences were. The prices weren't even close to each other either, we picked the most expensive place but DH and I just felt DS would get the most out of that school.

I looked at four but ended up going with the first one I saw. If you like it go for it. No rule that saids you have to look at so many before deciding.
