the girl who shampoos my hair, 2 or 3 dollars
I would give more if i got color, but i dont color my hair
haircut is 45 i give 12 bucks tip, i think thats like 26% tip

None... I always want to but I never know when to and then she usually is busy doing something like washing hair and I always feel so awkward anyway (it is bad enough tipping the hairdresser) that I just don't. I prefer it when the hairdresser does both lol

i do the same -
the assistant washes my hair, combs it, takes the rollers out, holds sections as my hair dresser does my hair and offers me beverages.

$3-$5...depending on how good she washes my hair, meaning, if she takes her time, massages my scalp, etc. I've had girls wash my hair with cold water(that got a tad warmer after I said something) and wash it really fast...so unrelaxing...those would get squat...sorry. They're not entitled to a tip, they have to earn it.

For a $50 cut, I give my stylist $15 and the assistant $5.

$6-7..often they are the ones blowing out my hair as well so i tip them based on 20% of a blowout
if just shampoo- ill tip $4-5

i used to be a shampoo girl. i was very young at the time BUT i was a licensed hair dresser just had to work my way up (which i chose not to do)
i work at 2 types of salons, a fancy schmancy one in merrick and then a reg mom and pop place in babylon village.
in merrick the average tip was about $5 but would range from 3-10 depending on the service provided, because we would do deep conditioning treatments, and a few other things. NEVER color at this place.
in babylon ave tip was 3-5 but would range anywhere from 1 -10 also depending on service provided. here i would do perms, straightenings, relaxers, wash out color and high lights, apply toners as well as assits some stylists.
when i go to get my hair done myself i NEVER give less then $5 to the girl that washes my hair unless of course im soaked by the time iget to the chair for my cut or she burns me. JMO i use to feel like i wasnt worth a tip when someone gave me a dollar i felt like they were doing it out of pitty, or because they "had" to give a tip but didnt really want to. again JMO
