How much does your gym charge for kids? Is this normal?

I went to check out another gym because mine has horrible pool hours. They wanted the same membership fee for DS, who is 1 year old, as me. I couldn't see paying all that money to bring him to the pool for 30 minutes a few times per week.

I told them I was sold until they told me I had to pay a full membership fee for him. They were stunned. Then they talked to the manager and after 'negotiating' she agreed to let him in for $10 per month. That was fine for me.

Where I go now it is free for kids under 2 to swim with us. What is normal? Chat Icon

Honestly I've never heard of a gym allowing your child to use the facilities? I know LA Fitness does childcare (in an AWESOME room BTW), and it's $10 a month unlimited, but they can't participate in the gym activities.

Just the pool. That's all I want it for.

But even that I've never heard up except at YMCA, but they make you pay for the child. Sorry I'm no help!

I never heard of children allowed to use any of the facility.

I am quite surprised they would allow it. Just because of liability.

When I was a personal trainer, all kids had to be in the chilcare area which is usually located in the front so kids NEVER go through the gym and equipment.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Guess things are different on LI than I am used to.

But I am saying JUST the pool area. Kids aren't allowed in the weight room or cardio room. Just the pool.

Any gym I worked at that had a pool always allowed children. And typically their 'fee' would be smaller, and then small children would be free with the parents membership. Hmmmmm. Chat Icon

No that was in NC not LI.

It's different in a YMCA setting type of course.

I used to go to Koga, it's so nice there!! They must have lowered the rates because I like $50 a month.

LA is $49 a month ($10 more for childcare) and a $99 sign up fee (I think). It's REALLY nice in there though. I haven't joined yet, one of these days!

I know that World Gym in Coram has a "family" membership that allows use of the pool for the kids, but you do have to pay the family fee for it.
