How much does your pool cost you a season?

We have an 18 ft oval semi inground pool. The liner is fairly new. I assume we have to buy a vacuum. Other than that what costs when we expect to incure with the pool this summer? We plan to open and close ourselves. Thanks

We have a similar sized pool, also semi inground b/c we live on an uneven property. DH opens and closes himself. I don't exactly have a number as to how much it costs but our electric bill does go up b/c of the filter needing to be run a certain number of hours a day. Also the water bill goes up a bit b/c we need to put water in on occasion due to splashing/evaporation. DH bought a large amount of supplies - chlorine tabs, shock, etc. the first year we were in our house so last year we didn't need to get much. Stores have great sales at the end of the season so we stocked up then.

The only thing that really cost us a lot was a new liner.

We have a much MUCH larger inground pool, we did NOT purchase a vacuum, but have the tubes and stick thingy (DH would know better) and brush to vacuum up ... the vacuums run about $1K, so we're holding off on that purchase for now. I'd say in the summer between the filter which runs on a timer and the air conditioners, our 3 month bill (june, july, august) for electric increases by a TOTAL of $500 for all 3 months (not each month). It balances itself out because we have gas heat and gas oven/stove/dryer, so our gas bill drops by about that much over the summer... In all it probably costs us maybe $100 per season for the utilities. Water is negligible where we live ($100 annual so it's not a big deal for us when we have to fill up). The chlorine, opening, closing, shock, etc is a lot, but not a HUGE amount, and we typically buy things on sale with coupons. The first year we had the house it was really bad because DH had to replace some big pieces of the filter and some of the piping (which he did himself), so that first year it was probably about $5K when all was said and done... Last season was maybe $1K total.

ETA: Our pool is MUCH larger, probably 15' x 35' rectangle.

We have a 35' x 16' kidney bean shape pool. It costs us $500 to open and purchase necessary chemicals (200 to open and 300 for chemicals for the summer). Not sure how much electricity costs to run the pool but I would probably guess around $200 and then another $200 to close the pool. Having a pool is expensive.

There are a lot of factors to consider, pool size, type of chlorination system, type and age of your filtration, type and condition of your pool cover, does the pool have a heater or maybe you want to purchase a solar cover?

We have an inground pool that we open and close ourselves. We purchase the chemicals to open and close, chlorine that we add every other day, shock, DE for our filter and we usually have one addtional expense that pops up every year. Our liner is fairly new, but we had to replace the filter and pump about 5 years after we bought the house because the pump was undersized for the pool. Last year we had to purchase a new pool cover (the regular covers only last 5 years or so). Every other year we purchase a new vacuum head or hose for the vacuum. As you can see, it adds up. And that doesn't include pool floats and toys! I would say, we spend an average of $600 per year on the pool, not including electric and a big expense, like a new pump and filter, etc.
