how much rice cereal in a bottle
Our pedi GI said we could add some rice cereal to DS's bottle of formula if his spitting up didn't get better. He has a milk protein allergy and reflux. He is a month old. I forgot to ask how much cereal per ounce of formula. Anyone else here put rice in their baby's bottle's? Can you tell me how much you use and does it seem to help your DC? Thanks.

Some recommend 1 tsp. per ounce I think. I just put 1 tsp. in his whole 4 oz. bottle. It thickens it up a bit. Make sure you change the nipple or make the hole bigger or it wont come out.

Thank you. I will try that. He has a dr's appt on Monday, but I want to start the rice today. His formula is so thin that he seems to be hungry all the time. And it makes it easier for him to spit up.

Ds gets 3-3.5oz in his bottles, i use a teaspoon of rice per bottle.
it seems to help. although it chunked him up real fast so i've alternated..one feeding rice, one feeding w/o.
he was 7.13 at birth. he's 5 weeks and now 11lbs.

My DS is 7 weeks and here are the amts we got when he was 5-6 weeks:
As per GI doc: 1 TBSP per 2 oz
As per Ped: 1 TSP per 2 oz
Basically the ped said I had lots of wiggle room. I thought that the GI's rec was a lot given that my DS takes 4 ounces. So, I started with 1 TSP per 2 oz (so I personally put 2 TSP in his 4 oz bottle) and took it from there. I found that that was enough. Both m Ped and GI doc also said that if the rice was constipating, we could try Oatmeal, same amts.
