How often do you bathe your newborn?

And when did you go from "sponge" baths to a tub? (I know this depends on losing the umbilical cord).

We gave her a sponge bath till she was a month old.

Now we give her a bath twice a week.

Infant tub once the stump fell off. As for frequency- that depends on your preference.

We bathed my first every 2-3 days because she wasn't much of a spitter and she has very sensitive skin.

#2 was a spitter, so every 2 days or until she started to smell like a belly button.Chat Icon

Sponged her until she lost the cord, and then it was every other day in the infant tub.

this is what we did-- her cord fell off pretty early though, after a week. Then in the infant tub, we didn't really submerge part of her body for a while. So it was kinda like a sponge bath, but not really.

ANYWAY, we do it every other day-- and still do, unless we have to skip a night. Like she is due for a bath tonight, but I am going to wait til tomorrow because we have her photoshoot on Sat AM and I want her to be as clean and fresh for that. I know it's silly, but whatever.

I know a girl in my mom's group whose DD HATES to get bathed and her Ped said they only really NEED it once a week.

Re: How often do you bathe your newborn?

We're doing sponge baths every other day. He's 3 weeks and his cord fell off, but the stump is still there, so dr. said to stick with sponge baths until the stump falls off.

Same here, sometimes we went to a third day, but he was born in the winter months.

Re: How often do you bathe your newborn?

once the cord came off, we gave him a bath every 3 days in the kitchen sink.

Now, at 6 mos he gets a bath either everyday or every other day in his tub which is inside our tub.

We gave DS sponge baths for a week. His cord fell off a week after we came home. We give him a bath every other day.

Re: How often do you bathe your newborn?

I've been doing it everyday since DD was 9 weeks old. When she was that young, I found the nights I bathed her were the nights she was sleeping through the night. The nights she didn't get a bath she was up once or twice.

Now that she's in daycare, she gets a bath every night, because I always feel like she's dirty by the end of the day.
