Re: How old is a child usually when they are 18-23 lbs?
Ok so...on that note...
what differences if any, do you see b/w a cradle and a bassinet/cosleeper thing? Advantages of one over the other?

Have you thought about the Pack n play with the bassinet attachmetn? That way it'll have another purpose when the baby outgrows it?
As far as when do you move the baby from your room to their room DO NOT listen to me...DS is still in my room..he's 12 months.

We are registering for that, but it will remain downstairs since we have a 2 story home and spend most of our day downstairs. So I want something else (preferably different) that is smaller and will stay in my bedroom.

Re: How old is a child usually when they are 18-23 lbs?
My babies were on the bigger side. My DS was 17 lbs at 4 months old. By 5 months he would have been over 18 lbs.
My first DD was around 18 lbs at 6 months. Her weight gain slowed down when she started walking and was only 22 lbs 3 ozs at 1 year old.
My second DD was over 19 lbs at 4 months old. She is almost 25 lbs at 10 months old.

Re: How old is a child usually when they are 18-23 lbs?
I think the weight is just a guideline for how much it can hold even if your baby is big. I stopped using at bassinet at 3-4 months old. Once they start moving around, you'll probably want to go to a crib. I think it's irrelevant if a child is "a peanut" and is 20 lbs at 18 months. You're obviously not going to have a child in it at that age.

Re: How old is a child usually when they are 18-23 lbs?
My bassinet went up to 15 Lbs. He was about 2.5-3 months when he hit that mark.
But once they can roll, raise themselves up on their arms, it's not no longer usable. Like they are on their belly and they push on their arms and pull their head up. Regardless of weight. That's what they may mean by raising themselves.
I had to remove DS at 2.5-3 months because of his weight and heigth.

Totally depends on the child. DS is 14 mos now and he's 23 lbs.

Re: How old is a child usually when they are 18-23 lbs?
DS weighed 20lbs when he was 9mos. He was 6lbs 12 oz at birth. I will say though by the time they reach 18lbs they are likely too mobile to be in a bassinet.

Re: How old is a child usually when they are 18-23 lbs?
DD was 7lbs 10oz at birth and when we took her to the dr the other day at 7 months she was 17lbs 12oz. So I'd say around 9 months or so.

Re: How old is a child usually when they are 18-23 lbs?
Just to give you a different perspective-- some babies grow to that weight very fast. And you can't always tell by the birth weight how it will go.
For example: My DS weighed 7 lbs 1 oz at birth. He was already about 18lbs at 4 months and had grown out of the infant carseat by 6 months. (I think he hit about 23 lbs between 6 and 7 months.)

This was DS at his 7 month visit! He was 16lbs at 4 months but to be fair he was 9.14 at birth.
ETA: DS is always in the 95+ percentile.

Re: How old is a child usually when they are 18-23 lbs?
I have a big boy (always 95% or higher for weight and height) but I took him out of the bassinet at 8 weeks.
For us, he wasn't 18-23 pounds yet, but he still seemed too big for it. He also was getting himself over to the side of the bassinet (in his swaddle!) and his face would be up against the fabric on the side of it. It freaked me out, so he went into the crib. If I had to do it again, I would just start with the crib.
