6 months. 4-5 months he was mostly tripod. 6 months he sat well unassisted and by the endof his 6th month/early 7th month he would get himself to the sitting position (before even crawling or getting on all fours).

Jacob is 5 months and he is sitting by himself...he just recently stopped toppling over.

smaantha can do it - but can't actually pull herself up to do it on her own (well, she hasn't figured out that she can hook onto something and pull up....unless you give her your hands, then she pulls herself up!  )

I think DS #1 was 5 1/2 m, DD was 6 1/2m DS #2 was 7 months, maybe a little sooner...
