Re: How old were you when you stopped believing in Santa Claus?
I never really bought it but I found out for sure when i was 3. I tried to force my mom to take a picture of the tooth fairy and she just gave me the money and said it wasnt real

Re: How old were you when you stopped believing in Santa Claus?
I think I was 7 or 8. After hearing kids talk about it at school I asked my parents. I cried when they told me Santa wasn't real.

Probably around 9. I started to recognize my mom's handwriting on the gift tags.

I think by 5th grade the cat was out of the bag. That's when some kids were finding out and once a few know the truth it's not too long before everyone else does too!

Re: How old were you when you stopped believing in Santa Claus?
4th grade. I was probably 9 turning 10. My sister was 8. My parents TOLD us the truth at the same time (why, I don't know???) Santa came every Xmas eve and handed out gifts to all the kids. That year, I looked hard, saw my dad's eyes, and still didn't believe it. I was so sad. My sister cried so much that year. I still don't know why they told us.
The funny thing is that they told us about Santa, yet we both still sucked our thumbs at night and made no effort to try to stop us from doing that.

Never. My parents always made it clear that Santa was a fairy tale. The whole "Santa" thing was just a quaint holiday tradition. Same with the tooth fairy and Easter bunny.
I have to admit, I was always baffled when I met kids older than 3 who believed.

Re: How old were you when you stopped believing in Santa Claus?
I cant remember ever believing in Santa. I'm sure I did - I just cant remember it. It must have not been a huge shock because I dont remember finding out he wasnt real either.
DD is in 1st grade and she came home the other day saying all the kids in her class told her santa was not real. Just one other girl insisted he was and they told the other kids they werent going to get any presents if they kept saying that

Re: How old were you when you stopped believing in Santa Claus?
In 3rd grade, my mom fell into the tree and knocked it over while she was trying to put out the presents. Of course we ran into the living room to see if we could catch a glimpse of Santa...and we did.
Christmas morning was kinda weird that year.

Re: How old were you when you stopped believing in Santa Claus?
I was in the first grade reading a "Baby-sitters Club" book and the girls in the book talked about how there was no Santa. I called my mom into my room and asked her. She didn't lie and told me that my parents were the ones who really gave me presents. All at once, I put it together- the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny...she didn't deny any of it. It was a sad moment when all of that came tumbling down for me at such a young age. My mom asked me not to tell my younger sister and I never did. I waited for the kids on the bus to tell her!

Re: How old were you when you stopped believing in Santa Claus?
Ohhh I hope my friend answers
When we were in teh 5th or 6th grade we wrote letters to leave out for Santa. . .asking him to sign and we would match the signatures.
I swear on my life, the signatures matched. . .I do not know how to this day but they matched so I believed for a bit longer!
As much as my parents loved me, they were not running out after midnight on Christmas Eve to forge a Santa letter

I was in 4th grade- 9 years old. I do remember how grown up I felt knowing that my parents were Santa and my brothers still believed.

Re: How old were you when you stopped believing in Santa Claus?
I was in 3rd grade. My mom had this habit of writing what the gift was on the back of the name tag of each gift. When I realized this, I kept turning over the tags to see what was inside before I opened it. Then realized that somehow the gifts from Santa also had my mom's handwriting on the back of the tag saying what gift was inside

Really??? My DD turned 3 in September and I am so excited because this is the first year that she really "gets it,". She understands and is really excited about Santa coming and her Elf on a Shelf watching her. Its awesome fun seeing her excitement!!!!...........I look forward to many years of her believing in the magic of Santa. Most kids, unless someone ruins it for them, believe well into elementary school. I hope my DD believes for a long time, it is so magical and exciting when you do. I hated when I found out the truth.

I always knew that there was no way my mom and Santa had the same handwriting
Hahaha, that's what clued me in too! My mom tried to tell me that Santa would bring the gifts for her to wrap and write out the tags but I wasn't buying it.

Yeah really. As a kid I could not understand how other kids could NOT know all that was a fairy tale. I was always very excited about Christmas but more for the whole family being together and doing things ( and presents). But that's how I was raised. No less magical.

I was not implying ur Xmas was not magical.........I was surprised that u think it is weird that a child older than 3 still believes. I was just making the point that at 3 kids are just understanding the whole Santa thing so to be done believing at 3 would be crazy.
As for believing in the fairy take, if it is all you know and ur parents reinforce it then of course u believe. IMHO, there is nothing wrong with a little fantasy and the belief in all things magical in childhood. I think it is all very sweet and innocent.

Never believed... But I remember going along with it for my parents sake. We celebrated both in my house, so maybe that had something to do with it?

Re: How old were you when you stopped believing in Santa Claus?
I was 7. My twin brother had already stopped believing, so he grabbed a kitchen knife & had me crawl on my belly to the back of my parents deep closet where the gifts were hidden. He then slit open some gift wrap on a present of mine that was labelled "From Santa." It was a Peaches & Cream Barbie & I remember it like it was yesterday We're 34 now & I STILL let him have it every year for that
