Re: How old were you when you stopped believing in Santa Claus?
I know exactly when. The Easter when I was 6. The prior christmas, I got the cabbage kid I wanted soooooo badly. It was the hot item that year and I later learned that my parents spent $$$$$$$ basically buying a CPK out of a garage in bklyn. I was very sick, and so excited when I opened it, but ran to the bathroom and threw up. Despite how sick I was, I was thrilled!
Fast forward a few months....our nasty first grade teacher was angry one day and said go home and ask your parents who the tooth fairy really is so...i discovered there was no tooth fairy and it was my parents. When easter came, I started realizing if the tooth fairy, was a scam, so was the easter bunny and santa. so, my dad was tucking me the night before easter and I said "dad, there is no easter bunny is there?" he could never lie, so he said, no, there'e not. and then i said, and you gave me that cabbage patch kid for christmas, right? and he said yes, and that was the end of it.

Re: How old were you when you stopped believing in Santa Claus?
4th grade
I remember it vividly. I remember thinking to myself that he was prob. made up and then Mrs. Collins my teacher said " I have to go home and hide the kids presents bc they still believe in Santa" to another teacher and I overheard when I was on the line for the bathroom

Re: How old were you when you stopped believing in Santa Claus?
Forever. Thanks Mom. To her Santa was $atan’s worker. I could go into why but that would depress people so I’ll leave it be.
Dad was catholic.
I was in a dark place as a child so Santa was a joke. A cruel joke that made me realize the world was seriously twisted. But I never broke the magic for others and yeah, I felt bad when I saw others doubt their beliefs and even look broken when they knew the truth.
Guess that’s why I started believing that no matter WHAT you believe as long as you do no harm, its not for me to speak against it.
Jury is still out on what we’ll do with AJ but I really don’t WANT to lie to her. Even now, we don't say Santa is bringing anything or that Santa is coming. Santa is just like Barney right now. Just a figure on TV who happens to be in a LOT of shows.

Re: How old were you when you stopped believing in Santa Claus?
I think I was 7 or 8. I was at a friend's birthday party and I overheard her mom make a joke about Santa not being real. I don't remember if she was talking to the kids at the party or to another parent, but I remember being shocked. Maybe her kid didn't believe anymore, but that didn't mean she had to ruin it for all the kids at her party!

Re: How old were you when you stopped believing in Santa Claus?
I was told very early on. We don't celebrate Christmas.
I was 5 years old at school when I told a few kids. They were not happy and I didn't know what the big deal was.
I really regret saying anything but I didn't know.

Re: How old were you when you stopped believing in Santa Claus?
I was about 5. My older sister ruined it for me! We were snooping for Christmas presents and we found the santa presents! Then she told me that she thought mommy and daddy were really santa. She was 7. I don't think I actually stopped believing at that point, but I definitely questioned it.
By the time I was 8, it was all over. My parents actually let my older sister and I put out the santa presents for my younger sister that year. Honestly, THAT's one of my best Christmas memories! It was so much fun to play Santa!

Re: How old were you when you stopped believing in Santa Claus?
I think I stopped believing around 7 or so. I have 3 older sisters so I think one of them told me.
We did have a teacher in our school that told us on the 1st day of 4th grade that Santa was not real. There were a couple of kids that still believed and they were very upset.

Re: How old were you when you stopped believing in Santa Claus?
I don't remember how I found out that there really isn't a strange fat man invading my house and eating our food in exchange for presents I do kow that the magic of Christmas is something I always have believed in and while the thought of an actual Santa kinda freaks me out and I don't want to lie to my DD and DS I also love the innocence of it all. There is nothing like seeing a child's face on Christmas morning seeing what Santa left. It's truely amazing. I also look forward to making magic reindeer food this year and tracking him on Nordic or whatever it is. DD will LOVE it! For us, even when we learned the "truth", we still did all the same traditions and honestly still do! I love the tradition of it all!

Re: How old were you when you stopped believing in Santa Claus?
I was really young. Maybe 5 or 6. I remember my brother and I catching my mom wrapping gifts at night and that was basically it. I don't think I ever questioned it though. It was just like "oh look at that! Mom is wrapping our gifts" And that was the end of that.

Re: How old were you when you stopped believing in Santa Claus?
i gotta say other.
i knew of santa but for some strange reason my family (which is spanish) didnt push it
We knew who the gifts were coming from. Everytime a gift was purchased and wrapped it would go right under the tree.
When I met dh (who is white) I had no idea gifts went under the tree in the middle of the of the night on Xmas eve

Re: How old were you when you stopped believing in Santa Claus?
I don't remember when I realized that there was no big fat man in a red suit coming down the chimney...maybe about the time I realized we didn't have an acutal chimney.
but I will say this...I honestly and truly believe in Santa Klaus. I believe he was a real like person who did beautiful things...and his memory and spirit are what drive and cause US to do beautiful, magical and special things for each other.
I believe that he wanted to remember those three wise kings who brought Jesus gifts. I believe he wanted to do that for people who needed it. and I believe that to this day, his spirit is in all of us, Jew, Muslim, Christian alike at this time of year...when we remember how important family and love and friendship and celebrating life truly are.
there is nothing wrong with having a little magic in our lives. nothing wrong with keeping the spirit of ol' Saint Nick.
it's not a lie to me, when I tell my son that santa exists b/c I believe he does, through me..through my husband...through all of us.
