How picky is too picky?

I just had my master bathroom renovated - the job is almost done - they are coming tomorrow to measure the template for the vanity countertop. Overall, I am extremely happy with the contractor and the work that was done. Everything came out beautifully. But, I am seeing a few small things that are sort of "collateral damage". They hung plastic sheets to protect the rest of the house from dust - but I just noticed that there are a few small spots where the paint peeled off from the tape (blue painters tape) they used to hang the plastic (in areas of the house that were just painted 2 years ago). And they painted the outside of one door the wrong color - white instead of off white. For the most part, these are things I could fix myself. I've just never really had to deal with anything like this before, so I'm not sure if I should I say something, or just fix it myself.

How picky is too picky?

If you are paying for a job it should be done completely to your satisfaction. It is not too picky. The door should absolutely be painted by them as they did the wrong color. Do you have extra paint from the other rooms? If they are small, I would probably do that myself but if you do not have the paint anymore I would definitely bring it up to them to have it fixed.

I don't think its being picky at all. If they painted the door the wrong color, they should def repaint it.
The paint in the other areas of the house, I would do myself.

When we did our master bath, towards the end, I had a daily punch list of things that needed to be done. I would review everything with them at the end of every day for the last three weeks. Your requests are reasonable.

Re: How picky is too picky?

Definitely have them repaint the door
You shouldn’t be doing that

Peeling paint from the tape? I might just touch that up myself

Re: How picky is too picky?

my previous job was for a plumbing company that specialized in preventative work.

it was not uncommon to have customers call at the end of the job or even a couple of days afterwards (when the issue was noticed) with small-ish issues like you're talking about.

the company had two people dedicated to revisiting houses to take care of those issues.

all that to say, they know that they are doing to make small mistakes. it's calculated in the overall price.

i would have them repaint the door.
if the tape issues on the walls is small enough and you have saved some of the paint, i would just touch it up myself.

and no. not too picky. this is your home. you spent time and money to have it look a certain way and they changed things that were not in the scope of the work, they need to correct it.

Def day something. U’re paying for them to do a good job in the whole sense of the word, not for u to have to fix things because of their lack of care.

How picky is too picky?

I’d just do the tape touch up myself. As for the outside of the door, did you tell them to paint it off white? What is the inside of the door color?

The side of the door that faces into the bathroom is white, as I wanted it to be. All of the molding/trim in the bedroom (the other side of the door) is off-white. (It's a pocket door, if that makes a difference) Some of the molding in the bedroom had to be replaced because of the construction and they painted the molding the correct off-white color, but not that side of the door

That is something that would need to be stated though. I would ask them to repaint it but know that unless it was stated up front it would be extra as when pricing a paint job doors would be one color unless noted.

Why? Because they would have to buy extra paint? They had to buy that color anyway, for the molding

Not picky at all- say something. They are used to fixing little things like that. I'd be annoyed if they upcharged for that. It should be included as it was their mistake.
However, if they are paid in full, I can see it taking them forever to come back to fix a small error like that. In that case, since it is an easy enough fix I might just do it myself (or make DH, lol).
