Re: How the heck do we know what a contraction feels like
Just so you know, mine did not hurt in the beginning, Start timing them, even if they dont hurt and see what happens! Good luck

They also sound like BH. I would try drinking alot of water and see what happens. I noticed the more hydrated I am the less BH I have.
I never understood how I would know when I was in labor and my dr. always told me I would just know and she was right. It will be something that you haven't felt before. It took me a few hours before I actually knew they were contractions but I noticed the feeling and then I just noticed when I would get them.

Real contractions will radiate in your back and travel across your belly. I also found that they kinda take your breathe away when they were happening.

All day I have had this tightening in the center of my belly. It will happen for a few seconds and then release. It is kind of what I thought Braxton Hicks was - but could this possibly be the start of a contraction? They don't hurt though - but are coming pretty frequently.
OR am I just making this up because I want him out.
My contractions with DS started this way, I had NO back pain AT ALL and the pain never really spread out over my whole belly. They also never got terribly painful until the final hour nor did they ever get any steadier or closer than 3 minutes apart. There were times that they stopped for 1/2 an hour while I was sitting still meanwhile they were more persistent while I was walking/eating/drinking. None of it makes sense. If in doubt, call and go in to the doctor's office...I did and I was in labor!

Re: How the heck do we know what a contraction feels like
With my first baby, I was one of those weirdos who didn't start laboring until my water broke all by its self. I was walking through the gas station and lost it all over the floor, just like in the movies, just like the doctors tell you it probably WONT happen. I didn't have any contraction until that and then 12 hours later I had a baby. This time, I'm 38 weeks and having mild cramps and back ache, but I just blame that on the fact that I'm workin 50 hrs a week. I woke up in a small puddle last night, had a dr appt today and she said it wan't my water breaking, I must have just gotten kicked in the bladder. Just as I was sitting here typing this, it happened again only I didn't feel any kicking and I didn't sneeze or cough! HMMMMM....could it be????
