How to Make the Perfect Hard Boiled Egg??

Ugh - I made hard-boiled eggs the other night and have been losing literally half of the egg because it's coming off with the peel. This has been happening more and more lately. I do think it has something to do with electric heat (hate it) because this definitely never happened as much when we have a gas stove.

Please giving me your boiling methods for having easy peel eggs? I know about running them under cold water when you peel but that's still not working. How long are you boiling for? etc

Thanks!

I boil them for like 10 mins. Then soak them in cold water for about 20, peel and go. I fins waiting until they are back to cold is the best way to peel.

Jenn, do you put them in the water right away so they are in there heating up or do you put them in once the water is actually boiling?

I let the water come to a boil and put the eggs in then for exactly 7 minutes. The yolk comes out a little shiny and not crumbly. They're perfect that way. To peel the shell I roll the egg on the counter and then it just peels right off.

I put the egg and water in at the same time.. and boil medium egg, 9 mins, large egg 12 mins.. from the minute stove goes on.. and then drop in cold in water for a few minutes and peel. The yolk comes out slightly soft, supple and yellow without the green.. Chat Icon

Put in water. Bring pot of water to a boil and immediately turn off heat and let sit for 15 minutes. Then peel.

I do the same. I just wanted to add that you should keep the pot uncovered while you bring it to a boil.

As for peeling, I don't think that it's the electric stove. I have gas and lately I've been having the same problem. I think it's because I haven't let them cool as much as I normally would. Either that or there's a change in the eggs lately!Chat Icon

You can try peeling them under some cool water from the tap. Don't put it on full force, but on low. It shouldn't stick then.

I agree with the putting the eggs in cold water, bring to boil then turn off and let sit for 15 minutes.

As far as peeling, fresh eggs are actually more difficult to peel. Week old (or longer) eggs are easier!

I let mine sit, covered, for 18 minutes, but same concept!

Put salt in the cold water along with the eggs. Boil 5 min, let sit on burner covered for 6. Run under cool water. It's easier to peel them when they are cold. I roll them on the counter.

Start with cold water, enough to cover eggs. Slowly bring to a rolling boil, then immediately move from heat, cover and let sit for 10 minutes. Then run under cold water until completely cool.

I boil for 15 minutes. I heard that fresh eggs are hard to peel. Use older eggs(but not expired). Also put salt in the water.
