how was your 1st baby vs. your 2nd?

just wondering how different siblings temperments, sleep habits, eating habits, etc. can be early on.

also if you have 2 boys, did they resemble each other at all?

Re: how was your 1st baby vs. your 2nd?

Night and day in my house. DS is 4, DD is 2. Exactly 2 years apart. DS is a handful...always has been...assuimg always will be. Had to be rocked to sleep all the time, terrible sleeper until
about age 3 when bedtime was no longer a struggle. Still whining and crying like a toddler. Challenging to say the least. DD...total opposite. Slept like a champ from day 1. ASKS to go to bed and take naps. Plays by herself for hours on end. Listens and is the cutest little thing.

Mine are also two years apart. Boy, then girl. Both were wonderful, excellent babies. Ate well, slept well (12 hour night starting at about 3 months).

Then, they hit 1 and 3, and since they were both mobile, they haven't stopped picking on each other, fighting over toys, crying, etc Chat Icon They are now 2-1/2 and 4-1/2 and still give me some days where I want to run away. But I'll keep them for now Chat Icon

If you had to ask me which was the harder gender? My girl, handsdown, is a diva, drama queen, cry at everything girl.

2 boys, 2.5 yrs apart. Hard to say - totally different yet totally the same. If that makes sense.

I don't think they look alike but everyone says they do esp comparing baby pictures. I seem similarities but see them so different. Their height and weight measurements have been pretty much similar to exact at most dr appts checks.

Sleeping - My second is my sleeper. He slept well pretty young and still is a good sleeper when he isn't sick or teething. The older - up all night for basically 2 years...but now is a good sleeper when he doesn't have nightmares. The first year was the worst. The first would sleep anywhere though and the 2nd is a crib sleeper which is harder (although he sleeps in the car a little). Both are bad teethers. First one was a late teether and worse. Second - teeth are coming in pretty much on a normal schedule but sleeps poorly for like 3-4 weeks per tooth!!

Eating - The oldest is a great eater. The 2nd one has potential to be a good eater. Started off slowly with table food but when healthy and not teething can be a eating machine!!!

Personalities...both were colic but one for 3 months and the other for a good 8-9 months. The older one was and still is more cuddly, loving, social and more behaved. The younger one is Trouble. He is a clown and makes me laugh but looks for trouble and does everything he shouldn't do (think likes to run into the street, eat crayons/playdoh, climb onto anything, etc). Both are very active and climbers. The little one talked early and I am in shock how much he says at 18 mos while my older one had 5 words at 18 mos. The older one had great hand/motor skills (feeding himself with spoon by 10-12 mos perfectly) and was always so logical, imaginative and studious - studied everything. The little one still having touble with silverware and just pushes his way into anything and has no patience to understand things. wants it all now. But yet sometimes I look at them and feel like they are the same!

Re: how was your 1st baby vs. your 2nd?

They were/are alike in some ways, different in others.

Sleeping: DD#1 slept through the night earlier. I don't know if that's because I BF DD#2 longer or what. Oh yeah, and DD#1 NEVER napped for longer than like 20 minutes in the beginning...ugh! DD#2 was always pretty decent. Now, DD#2 takes after her mommy for sure...1 three hour nap that ends around 5:30 and back to bed at 7:45pm for 13 hours!!!!!! Yeah!!

Eating: Both similar at first...great eaters. Now--at 3.5 and 21 mos--the older one doesn't like anything and the younger one eats whatever we give her!

Early temperament: DD#1 was very high strung. Cried and cried...and cried as a newborn. Nervous breakdown inducing! Chat Icon DD#2 had the typical witching hour, otherwise a good baby. As they got older, both hated being in the stroller.

Physical stuff: DD#2 was ahead in all milestones: rolling, crawling, walking...even teeth. DD#1 was ahead verbally.

Temperament now: DD#1 very dramatic, cries/whines several times a day over who knows what? Life's injustices I think. Chat Icon She is getting better on that however. DD#2 is a real character, very active, always laughing, always getting into something. Not a lot of drama in her world thankfully!

Oh, and I have two girls, but I don't think they look very much alike at all!

Re: how was your 1st baby vs. your 2nd?

I have a boy and girl.

Ryan was a GREAT baby. Oh were we spolied with him. He slept through the night at a month old, and was a great sleeper over all until recently (he is 3 now). He would eat everything and never fuss about anything his entire first year. He is now a picky eater, but we are working on it.

Erin was born when Ry was 19 months. She was also a great baby. She needed a little more help in getting to sleep through the night, but she did at 2 months and sleeps great since. She is a great eater to this day, and has a great temperment, even though she can be a HUGE drama queen at times.

I would say that they have pretty similar ways about them. They both have good personalities, always laughing and being silly, but of course, being like brother and sister, will annoy the crap out of each other all the time! Chat Icon I was expecting them to be like night and day, but they really aren't. Maybe that will change as they get older.

ETA: They completely look like brother and sister, but Ry takes completely after DH, and Erin is all me.
