how would feel/react?

DS (he's 3 & 1/2) is in Pre-K3 from 8am to 230pm. let me say that i really like his teacher and the school environment. this is my DS's first time ever in a school setting. He has always been watched by a babysitter who always had 2-3 kids in total (including DS).

one system that his program has is that he has a notebook in his backpack and if there is any communication to be had btwn teacher & parent.. it would be written in that book. for example, if you're child is having a hard listening etc. having said that, since the school yr has started the teacher has brought it to my attn (4x so far) that DS had a hard time listening and he was scattered everywhere couldnt focus couldnt control his body movement aka sit still.

my problem is that she said this to me in front of other parents and teachers. it happened again today.. i feel a bit embarassed as other parents are looking at us and listening in on the convo. I feel that the appropriate thing to do is write it in the book or pull me aside from everyone and tell me what's going on. i must say, that when I am being told of my DS's behavior, tone is polite but with a hint of annoyance. Quite honestly, I am not sure what she is expecting from a 3yr being in a stimualted environment.

i told my DH (last time it happened) that if it happened again that i would approach her and ask her politely to not do that in front of other parents. my question to you is.. am I being sensitive? should I approach her or just drop it?
WWYD? thanks

no, you are not overreacting. That is completely inappropriate. What is the notebook for then? I would ask to meet with her to discuss her approach.

95% of feels this way and other 5% feels like I may be over reacting. I feel the same way about the notebook too.. i put off approching his teacher b/c i didnt want to come across as the mom that is taking it personal. as i was walking away from her I really wanted to say (loudly) thanks for the PSA i appreciate it! ugh!!!

Re: how would feel/react?

You are 100% right to feel upset! This would NEVER NEVER take place in my DS's school! NEVER do they talk about the kids to parents in front of parents - not good, not bad, nothing but generic - oh they are so cute etc. I would be completely disgusted if I heard a teacher doing this and would nip this in the bud immediately! Re: how would feel/react?

I do not feel like you are overreacting at ALL. To be honest I taught Preschool for 3 years before I got a job in NYC teaching. At 3 it is hard for MOST kids to sit still for long durations of time. And if he is having a harder time then others, then she should approach it with you privately. I think it would be perfectly reasonable for you to discuss it with her!
