How would you react/feel if...

your 4 month old (who is EBF) was given a "taste" (in other words, had item put to mouth so he could suck/lick it i guess?) of strawberry, orange, lime, and lemon? (obviously while you weren't there)

Re: How would you react/feel if...

I know many on here would be livid.

Me personally, wouldn't care. In fact, my DS was eating baby food at 4 mos and we did just what you are describing.

I'm pretty laid back with he whole food thing though.

Depends on who did it. Chat Icon If it was DH, my mom or MIL I wouldn't care.

I'm pretty laid back, but those items are high on the allergen food list. I didn't give DD Strawberry or Citrus until after she turned 1.

If you weren't giving it to him yourself or if they didn't ask first, I would be livid.

Re: How would you react/feel if...

i'd mostly be upset that it was done without me present. I let my son try all of those things (except strawberries) before 6 mos, but I realize I'm not the norm. He was also eating all jarred fruits and veggies at 4 mos.

I also guess it depends who it was. Did the person doing it know that you wouldn't approve, so they did it while you weren't there? Or was it someone that just doesn't know any better?

Re: How would you react/feel if...

With Ryan it would have pizzed me off. With Colin, I'm a bit more relaxed about stuff like that. Personally, I want to be there when my child is introduced to anything new - the fact that he is EBF has nothing to do with it. Either way I'd be annoyed, but moreso with my first child Chat Icon

I'd probably be annoyed that someone did that without asking. I think people, especially the older generation do things out of ignorance for all the new "rules" not to purposefully do the wrong thing.

Re: How would you react/feel if...

the citrus fruits would really piss me off.

um, as wood strawberries b/c there is a history of allergy in my family (my mother)

I know people think this crap is cute, but it's NOT. NOT. I repeat, NOT CUTE.

my sister gave Luce a little bit of home fries from the dinner one day around that age (I was sitting right there) and I almost lost my ****. the grease..the spices...the onion...NO WAY. not at that age.

and it has nothing to do for me about ebf and all that stuff...it has to do with the individual items themselves, the "maturity" of his stomach, and UM, that is MY kid. *I* introduce the foods when *I* see fit. END. OF. STORY.

Re: How would you react/feel if...

My mom gave DS a lick of chocolate the other day Chat Icon I was like MOM (which is WAY worse then what you mentioned)!!! But honestly, *I* don't mind. I gave DS tastes of my banana yesterday.

If it bother you though, that is your choice, your child.

ETA: I would p*ssed if it wasn't the following people giving it to him Chat Icon DH,Mom,Dad MIL, Sister, SIL. (only b/c I feel these following people are responsible enough that if an allergic reaction would take place, would know how to handle)

Re: How would you react/feel if...

I wouldn't be happy at that age.

My DS is 5 months and is EFF, we have not given him any food yet. We are starting soon but we are not simply throwing food at him, we are introducing new foods one my one so I would be annoyed and ask the person to refrain in the future.

Re: How would you react/feel if...

I would be annoyed if I wasn't ready to let DC try those things. We decided with the advice of the ped to not give solid food until Kaydyn got teeth. My family was aware of this. I went to a chinese buffet with my sister and her kids and I went up to get food and when I came back my sister was feeding Kaydyn rice. I told her I was annoyed and that I wanted to be the one to feed her food first. I came to find out that the same week my mom watched Kaydyn and took her to my sister's house and they gave her cheerios. I was ****** that after me telling her not to give her solid food she still gave it to her.

It wasn't DH, MIL, or my mom....

We want to EBF until 6 months - we JUST had our 4 month appt and the ped. said not to introduce solids until 6 months.

The lemon was one day... and actually a video was taken and shown to me. The person could see that I wasn't happy and was told that I didn't really want the baby having anything like that.

The following day was when the strawberry, orange & lime were given.

by the same person you specifically asked NOT to give him the lemon?

Then I'd be P*ssed.

Again, YOUR child, YOUR decision. . .no one elses!

Re: How would you react/feel if...

I would NOT be ok with the strawberries, as they are a food that can be highly allergic. As for the rest of it, I wouldn't be happy but not much you can do about it now!

I didn't mean that EBF babies can't have those... I just was mentioning that he was EBF (could have been EFF) just to say that he is NOT having any table foods yet.

I didn't make a big deal about it, but inside I was upset!

I want to be the one to give him those first experiences and first tastes... and I just didn't feel that it was the appropriate time when we just spoke to the ped about waiting until 6 months... also I wasn't there and I would have wanted to be there for his "first" - kwim?
