OMG that is INSANE. I would be so mad. Why can't they just order more for the other person? It makes no sense unless they need it right at this very moment. Or else, screw them, they need to wait. I would actually consider calling other stone places to cut and install it. I would be furious. I am furious for you!

I am SO sorry you are going through this. Speaks volumes as to their unethical and unprofessional behavior.
The ones doing the install are probably not aware of the situation but I would be damn sure to do a thorough inspection prior to payment.

This is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard of. You have EVERY RIGHT to be as pissed as you are. Stand your ground!

when everything is done I will post photos. But this is not the most insane thing that has happened. Let's just say that someone who used to work for the contractor is now in jail and I had to tell the contractor his employee made the news.

I was incredulous as I reading this. YOU are not wrong at all; this business is absolutely in the wrong. I can't believe your husband does not see your point of view.
(THIS is indicative on what is wrong with this country and businesses. For a few extra bucks, let's screw someone over; let's lose our ethics and values because, you know, money.)
I'm curious if this piece-of-work saleswoman, who, by the way, is gaslighting you, or anyone else in the business offered you any sort of consolation and financial incentive to sell it to someone else.

yes, they did but it was like $100. I was disgusted.

That is totally nuts. My blood was boiling reading that. You OWN it. They can NOT sell it just like they can't sell your car in the parking lot to someone who likes it. I can't believe they had the balls to do that. Please say here who you are dealing with. That is just poor business practice and people need to know the kind of shenanigans that go on.

I would make sure to tell them that any tiny piece leftover after they use what they need for your design you want no matter how small it is. You purchased the entire thing so you want any leftover

ITA. Leftover pieces make nice side projects. Cutting board, accent tile somewhere, coasters, etc, etc.
I can't believe your DH doesn't see your POV. It's yours. The store can't resell it. Why should you, who had to wait to special order it, get screwed over because someone else wants to cut the line and take what is yours?

So I told my husband about everyone's replies and I think he just did not get it. Once I explained these stones are unique he understood why I was so upset. He saw the stone and agreed that he loves it too. He is a very non confrontational type of person, so he tries to stay calm. I just felt like I was alone in feeling upset. Thank you all for validating me.

it is in the warehouse. So it is not exactly on display but you can walk through the warehouse to see large slabs. I saw other people slabs when looking for mine. They have very small samples in the main portion of the store, then you can see where they do the fabricating, and then there is an enormous warehouse with over a thousand different slabs. So mine came into the warehouse from Italy and you could see it there. I am in NJ and this is a major stone vendor who resells to other smaller stone shops. I have used them before so I know they know what they are doing for install. I was just upset with how they treated me.

I agree with everyone else. You are 100% right to be totally pissed. I also understand having the cooler headed SO making everything NOT a big deal - which of course makes you feel nuts.
I have been living a renovation nightmare since August. I just don’t understand how these people even stay in business !!!!

Today is issue after issue. Argh, argh. Glass company told contractor they would give discount, then raised coating price to offset discount dollar for dollar. I am just so frustrated.

I just have to say...everyone is JUST out for $$. Yes, we all want to make money,...but what happened to the contractors/vendors/businesses who really cared about the customer??
If I were a business owner, I would aim to make the customer 100% happy - 100% of the time. It's called REPEAT business. It just makes no sense to me the way people run their business.
