How would you handle this neighbor situation?
We get this letter on our door (and I am typing it exactly as it was written):
--------------------------------------------------------------
Tues AM
Dear Neigboors!
We hear daily and weekend noices like Music, jumping out of bed, waking loud, moving noices...that wake up us too early.
Thank you. Have a nice day.
Your neigboors downstairs.
--------------------------------------------------------------
First, let me say... WHAT? I have no idea what my neighbors are talking about. We are SO quiet! Honestly, we go to bed at 9:30 pm and get up at 5:45 for work. I am NOT a morning person so I'm definitely not jumping around or anything like that. I basically drag myself out of bed and into the shower, eat breakfast, get ready and head out the door. DH leaves when I leave and goes to the gym. We NEVER play loud music. If anything, DH listens on his computer but never loudly.
How should we handle this?
Should we go speak to our neighbor (who someone warned me was crazy when I first moved in) or just ignore it?
Thanks! I'm just sitting here like
ETA: We live in a condo complex.
We are upstairs (this is a picture from the real estate listings here from our complex)

You live in an apt building or private house? Either way what the hell do they expect when they have people living ABOVE them. Are they kidding? I live in an apt and CHOSE to live UPSTAIRS just for that reason. Tell them to go scratch. You are making NORMAL noises. I could see if you were having Keg parties on the weekends and get buck wild. Screw them.
JMHO!!

Re: How would you handle this neighbor situation?
Oh man. It really sux that you even have to deal with this. I would go with DH as a team and knock on their door. I would bring the letter and just say, we got this letter this morning, is it from you and just see what they say. After that, just let them know that you are really mindful of your neighbors peace and quiet and that you do not feel like you are the nuisance that they claim you to be. Tell them to knock on your door the instant they hear loud music playing. Are you renting? Can you go to your landlord? Ugh. Sorry for the crappy advice, but I just wanted to try and offer up something!

Re: How would you handle this neighbor situation?
I had a similar issue a few weeks ago and .. the neighbors complained to our super before us... and we're quiet! ... so it was annoying... we went to talk to them and they were nice as can be... I gave them our # and told them to call us immediately the next time they heard this mysterious noise... never heard from them sicne... I JUST saw the woman for the first time today getting our mail and she was like "Oh! Jennifer, how are you and your husband?" blah blah blah like we were buddies! I said we were fine and said, "We haven't heard from you - I guess that's good news. how's the noise?" and she threw her hands up and was like "everything's perfect".... sorry for the tangent, but I just wanted to let you know I empathize with you completely! I think going down there with DH will go a long way...

Re: How would you handle this neighbor situation?
I would write a response back as follows:
Dear Neighbors:
As of today, we have stopped listening to music, talking, walking, playing on the computer, cooking, showering, climbing in and out of bed and moving around in general in the hopes of creating a more comfortable environment for you. Sorry for the inconvenience of living a normal everyday life. Thank you too ... and have a wonderful day!
By the way, I am happily attaching a dictionary in the hopes that your next note to us will be literate.

Re: How would you handle this neighbor situation?
I am sorry that your going through this. I would just confront them with the letter and ask if this was from them and if so ask them what the actual problem is. Let them know your not noisy and you will try to be much quieter. If they still say you are loud then they have very sensitive ears. I would give them a gift a ear plugs with a dictionary with a letter saying I tried but i am not giving my life up for a bunch of crazies. Good luck and I hope it gets better for you.

Re: How would you handle this neighbor situation?
had the same thing happen to us when we first moved into our coop. We call her the crazy lady upstairs...she said my alarm clock was waking her up every morning and that the tv was too loud (at 7pm) and that my DH had his music to loud.
How did I deal? For a week, everytime I turned on my tv, I would run upstairs and ring her bell and ask if she could let me in so I could make sure the volume was ok...after a week she started telling me that "it was fine" and then she just stopped answering the door all together!

Re: How would you handle this neighbor situation?
ugh - I'd probably just write back something like "we will try to be more accomdating of your noise sensitivity but are unable to change our careers or schedules at this time. Should you find the noise to be continuing, please feel free to come up stairs and let us know so we can address the manner as quickly as we can"
If they are complaining about waking up too early then im positive they won't drag their azzes out of bed and come upstairs to be all "uhh you shower too loudly."

Re: How would you handle this neighbor situation?
Personally, I'm obnoxious, so tommorow I would make sure to stomp around, crank up the tv, sing in the shower at the top of my lungs, etc. Just so when I go back to being normal the next day, they realize what it could be.

Re: How would you handle this neighbor situation?
Barbara- well written !
To answer the original OP, only because you were told that this person is crazy, I would reply, and just be polite to keep the peace (which is otherwise unlike me )
But just say "im sorry but we really feel that we dont make this type of noise.. (are there any other neighbors to the side or back of his condo?)

Re: How would you handle this neighbor situation?
The funny thing is that there is no call to action on that letter, they haven't actually stated if they actually want you to do anything about the noises. Perhaps they were telling you how much they enjoy the noises!!!
