How would you handle this work situation?
Last Friday, not this Friday, the 17th, my manager was out of the office. We had an intern with us for three weeks, and she had gotten very sick that week. Friday morning, she went to the DR (driven by someone in the office), and was diagnosed with a throat and ear infection and a stomach virus. He left orders for me to drive the sick girl all the way to Connecticut. It took me two hours there, and two hours back. When I returned, he was there and I made a joke saying are you kidding me? Nice to send me in a car for 4 hours with a sick girl while I am pregnant. He is like Oh, I didnt even think of that... I drive a company car so I am usually the one to do these little errands, so it was just expected of me not intentional.
COme Wednesday, I couldn't even swallow. My glands are swollen. I have a dry cough, but am now coughing up green crap. I have no vacation or sick days left because I used them all for went I was bleeding in the beginning. I have passed it along to Kristopher who better not share it with Juliette because we are going to Sesame next weekend...
Should I be pushy and tell my boss now that I have this girls cold, I am staying home and should not be docked? I am really mad. It's a weird reason to not be docked, but really! I shouldn't have been forced in to that situation.
I didn't even get out of bed on Saturday. My chest is killing me from this cough. I lost 3 lbs this week from not really eating. ANd I have no voice on top of it all.
What would you do?

You could mention it and ask that you be paid, but I don't think I would demand it. Although it is likely that you did get sick from this person, it's hard to prove that riding in the car is the thing that did it since usually this stuff is spread by droplets (meaning she could have touched a desk/pen after coughing/sneezing that you then touched and then touched your face). Unfortunately it's not really their responsibility.
I hope you feel better! If God forbid this happens again, please ask that someone else takes them since illnesses while PG are more easily contracted and not as easily treated.

I would be really angry honestly that they even made me drive this person in the first place I think it is worth a shot mentioning that you want to be compensated even if you are staying home sick..as the pp said dont demand it but give it a try...hope you are feeling better

Sorry you are sick now. But I would definetly ask if you could stay at home with pay, as you would hate to pass this horrible virus on to anyone else in the office.
good luck

He is Swiss and doesn't get the, "Beat around the bush" approach. We often have office drama within the 11 of us because of things lost in translation. I will try and call him tonight. Thanks though, I kind of thought I was crazy but I am glad you ladies understand the situation.
I know I could of picked it up anywhere, but she was in my car all that time and sat 3 feet from me all week.
