HR Question - benefits (kinda long)
I have a relatively new job. I started on June 26th. Somehow during my benefits selection (done online) either I selected the wrong benefit or the wrong benefit registered for me online. Today I wanted to make an appoinment at the dentist. I have yet to receive my dental card, so I call Aetna (who administers the dental plan) and ask where my card is & to verify coverage. They tell me I am covered under the DMO plan. I tell then I am not, that I selected the PPO. I call my HR (which is in Delaware) and find ou that they have me selected for the cheapest most inflexible coverage. I say well that is wrong, please fix it. They say they can't since I have been at the company for over 31 days. I tell them they JUST began to take out for my benefits this past paycheck (received Friday) & before then I would have no way of knowing it was wrong, since I have no insurance card yet. They pretty much said well you are SOL & I can fix it during open enrollment in January. This would give me 5 months of out-of pocket dental care, when I am supposed to have coverage, PLUS they will be taking out for a plan I cannot use unless I switch denists.
So here is my question: do I have any recourse, since I had no way of knowing (no deductions from paycheck & no card received) to get this fixed? I really do not want the dental plan that needs referrals & has limited coverage, PLUS my dentist only takes the other plan.
TIA

Yes, they can change it. Do you have a plan administrator at your firm? The people from the insurance company that work with your firm can get them to change it.

I don't know what their policies are, but you can make correction during the year from the back end, it's changes that normally have to wait, unless it's a qualifying event (marriage, birth etc).

I am sure we do, but they are at a remote office. I tried to ask the befitis assistant before to speak with them but she hung up on me and now the department has gone to their automatic answering which only lets me leave a message.
I am actually not at work today, b/c I am having an issue with my tooth (hence why I need to go to the dentist) and I do not want to get slammed with a $1200 bill
Thanks for your advice. I will keep trying to call the office.

Re: HR Question - benefits (kinda long)
OK I got the same woman on the phone as this morning, and I explained to her again that I had no way of knowing what was elected. She asked if I received a confirmation of benefits statement, which I had not. She said she will speak with a supervisor & get back to me later today that it does look like something is off with my benefits account. I hope she is not just blowing me off.
Thanks for the responses all!

Re: HR Question - benefits (kinda long)
This sounds like something they should be able to correct. Our HR manager took someone off our plan by mistake and they were reinstated with no problem.

Yes, they should still be able to fix it (as long as they speak to someone at the health insurance co)...

Re: HR Question - benefits (kinda long)
Thanks they called & told me that they will try to get back to me in 24 hours. The woman was so snotty thought. She was like, well it's not our fault if you chose the wrong plan. Whatever, just fix it \ Thanks again all!
