Huntington Hospital Maternity Ward?
Has anybody delivered there or visited the maternity dept recently?
I thought I read they were remodeling the unit and I was just wondering if they did already or intended to? And if their rooms have gone all private or some are still shared?
Unfortunately NSLIJ/Hunt Hosp website bites.

Re: Huntington Hospital Maternity Ward?
I was visiting this week. It looked the same as when I have birth there in sept. they have doubles and smaller private rooms you pay for.

Re: Huntington Hospital Maternity Ward?
I just delivered at Huntington in February. Love it there. The nurses are fantastic, and all the doctors I encountered were great. They have not switched all of the rooms to private rooms. You still have to pay extra if you want a private room (I think $250 per night). The [private rooms are available on a first come, first serve basis. You can't reserve a room, but as soon as you check in to deliver, let them know in admitting that you want a private room. I think I told every person I came in contact with that I wanted my own room.
The private rooms have their own bathroom and shower, whereas the shared rooms have a toilet and sink, but you have to go down the hall to shower.
I also delivered my son at Huntington in Aug 2009. The only things that changed that I noticed is that there is no longer a separate viewing room for babies in the nursery. There is no window for visitors to see the babies. But they also allow babies in the room 24 hours a day, if you choose. The nurses would take the babies back to the nursery to bathe them, check their weight etc. But if you wanted the baby in the room with you all day/night, they'd bring the baby right back to you when they were done doing what they needed to do.
Also, I don't believe visitors can enter from the back parking lot like they did a few years ago. I think they have to go in through the main hospital entrance and head over to maternity.
Congratulations!!

Re: Huntington Hospital Maternity Ward?
I delivered in HH in August and loved it there. I did not have a private room but was lucky enough not to have a roommate. I was there for 5 days too.
Re: the viewing room. I have a very large family so they but my DS in the viewing room for everyone to see him. This was done at request.
All in all it's a great hospital and the staff was wonderful.
Congrats and good luck.

Re: Huntington Hospital Maternity Ward?
I loved the staff (minus one Wench of a woman who was my nurse just before AJ was born and during, hate that woman! Sorry excuse for a human!) otherwise.. all other nurses before during and after were GREAT!
Staff is just so awesome. I did not ask for a private room. Never even a thought in my mind as I couldn’t afford it. I was, however, given no roommate the whole time I was there. They shuffled women left and right and put some in the normal rooms because they were full but still mine stayed empty. I never once had a roomie. I think it had to do with my blood pressure issues. But they never asked, they just took care of me. The walk to the shower was less than the walk to the bathroom in my apt. LOL
I did hate all the cleaning. Man they cleaned, cleaned, CLEANED. I wanted to sleep! I had a different experience because I had to be woken up often for blood pressure checks. So if I wasn’t feeding her, cuddling her, walking with her or eating, I was trying to sleep because they’d sprinkle in lots of blood pressure tests all day and night. I was exhausted! So when I FINALLY got a moment to sleep it seems THAT is when they were cleaning! Always!
Tell you this.. I had the cleanest TV ever! LOL could be worse, right?

Re: Huntington Hospital Maternity Ward?
Thanks for the congrats girls. Still got a ways to go.
I had my previous 3 there, but the last time I was in the maternity unit was Summer 2010. I thought I read in one of the recent HH newsletters that they were updating the unit and I was hoping they were going all private, but I could be mistaken. When I was there last, the place was super busy and I had two roommates until was able to get a private room.
From what you girls are saying, they did change the entrance and baby viewing situation, but that's not a big deal for me. (Last time I was there, there was a security issue/breach, so I'm not surprised.)
I'm crossing my fingers that December is a slow month for deliveries.

Re: Huntington Hospital Maternity Ward?
Good morning everyone,
Just wondering if the maternity ward at Huntington Hospital has changed recently. I'm told by a friend that she THINKS they switched to single rooms. Maybe since the last post something is different?
Thanks.
