Anyone know what the latest is?? I keep missing the weather on TV. It all depends on what station you watch everyone is saying something different? Is it a direct hit? Effects from it? DH and I are close to the water and I am hoping we won't have to evacuate!! I remember something last year and we were suppose to get something and all we got was allot of rain and allot of wind! I am hoping that's all it is!!!!

The map that Kelly posted in the beginning of this thread is updating automatically, so it's a pretty good forecast of what's going to happen. It's still a little early to tell exactly what's going to happen, since it keeps shifting to the East.

Shawn is right. I have lots of stuff to do, so I give you maps that automatically update.
I also said that things won't start to come into focus til Thursday, and even better on Friday. Right now I just got back from the gym and my battery trip to Walmart. Nope, not batteries for that!

I'm sorry I dont understand this. What is this saying? I live on the north shore.
IMAGE
The white numbers are barometric pressure. The lower the numbers, the stronger the storm. Typically above 1005 is good weather and under 990 is a strong storm. The black lines just connect the same pressure.
WHen the black lines get close together like that, it means windy. The more black lines packed together, the windier it is.
Main concern now is where the center of the storm is. (That is the smallest circle you see on this map on the southern tip of NJ.) But as you can see, rain (colors on map) and wind extend a long way from the center.
The 'right front quadrant' of a hurricane is the most dangerous.
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN KELLY?
Think of a storm like a clock. Center of the storm is the center of the clock. Where you would typically find 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 is the most dangerous part of the storm as a whole. (Other than the immediate center, but I am talking about a large area in this instance.) Also, the right front quadrant is known for the area of biggest storm surge. (Meaning the water gets pushed from the ocean onto land.) If you live on the water and will be east of the center, you could be in big trouble.
Did I explain it or confuse you more?
wow so cool. Thanks for teaching me :) You have a cool job!

Not that there wont be plenty of time to use that too. Let me be first to call out the fact that there might be lots of babies born 9 months from now

This isn't even my job anymore.
Although, somehow forecast interpretation for LIF and FB takes up a lot of my time now. I really should get another hobby.

Seriously at this point I'm just laughing now. What else can Mother Nature throw at us this week? (Let's pretend I didn't say that 'out loud')

Please be safe, guys. I'm in Charlotte, and it looks like we're going to escape the worst of it, since we're about 3 hours inland. We have BEGGED our family and friends to get out of harm's way. It's looking like a direct hit to LI and we just want everyone to be safe

Re: Hurricane Irene-what you need to know (mini-update wed am))
so as of now, what time should we hunker down? We are thinking of spending the night at my ILs, so heading over there Saturday night.
Im not going to lie, this is making me nervous and I very very very rarely take these things all that seriously.
