Re: I almost killed some lady in Costco today...
I don't like it when a stranger gets in my kid's face....you don't know them...what if they're sick....
I'm sure you were just shocked that she was in her face...I don't know what I would have done. But, you can't trust anyone nowadays...

I would have been annoyed too.
But I think maybe you got other feelings too. You were not "watching" DD, she was 2 ft from you and maybe you reacted out of fear because you did not see the lady coming.
I don't like when strangers touch DS on his hands or face. He catches everything and since he is on the nebulizer I am super paranoid.

Honestly? It wouldn't bother me -- she was being sweet and kind.
There is not enough kindness and humanity shown nowadays, I take it wherever I can!!
And I always have Purell on me just in case that humanity is less than desirable.
I so agree!!!

Your DD is still a baby baby so I might have had a similar reaction as well. I'm not fond of people touching my son, but if they do I don't freak on them, just move on and away......

I will say though- you said yourself you took your eyes off DD which gave this woman enough time to get close. If this is something that truly upsets you- don't take your eyes off DD when in public to ward off the touchy-feelies......
Exactly! There's nothing wrong with not wanting people to touch your child....but then you really shouldn't let her out of your sight!

Re: I almost killed some lady in Costco today...
Germs wouldn't be my main concern...I would be upset and dumb founded that this stranger had the audacity (p?) to touch someone's child. I know it happens but I will never be one of those people. I know better.
I probably wouldn't have said anything b/c I'm not quick enough, my mouth would probably still be on the floor by the time the lady left. However, I don't knock you one bit for doing so.

see..I guess the way I view it is that a lot of older ladies are like this. I guess I view it as a generation thing?? Maybe because in their time as younger moms people didn't get so worried or nervous about strangers or germs etc...
If it were a creepy looking middle aged man I'd feel differently, lol. But a sweet lady? They are only paying attention to a cute baby and it prob makes their day. No harm in my opinion but I guess to each their own.

Re: I almost killed some lady in Costco today...
Shes a first time mom, its a normal reaction.. Im sure she didnt mean to come off abrumpt to the lady but I know i can get very protective over my dd.
Its okay that you had this reaction, its not like punched the lady, you just made it clear you didnt want her touching your child.

Re: I almost killed some lady in Costco today...
on somewhat of a side note..even though no one knows FOR SURE that Beths baby was touched by this woman, or if she was just looking or playing with her.. i wonder.. would ANYONE in their right minds walk up to another adult and put their hand on their cheek? Or touch their hands? Or invade their space? Nope.. my opinion on the whole situation..im such a big mouth, so normally i would assume that i WOULD say something..but ive noticed, that in the last 6 weeks since my dd is born, ive encountered MANY people very intrigued by her, hands on her hands, hands on her binky (!!!) a hand on her head or foot..and i have swallowed it up, and have left stores SWEATING i was so aggravated, but yes, theyre just being kind, and i have to let go alittle bit.. i find it happens more when my ds is walking her stroller, so i tell him, "lemme walk her in the store so people leave her alone" lol
anyway, back to my point though..
do you think people feel "entitled" to touch our children, because theyre too little to have a say in things?? Im curious to see how this is viewed..why you think its done so often.

Whether or not shhe touched the baby, she was colose enough to do so with IMO is TOO close!
The OP has a right to be protective in all seasons, but I'm jus thinking of all that is going around now in particular....
Don't be so harsh on the OP! She is the mom and it's her call

ok maybe a sweet little old lady would of made it better if it was my sitution. I probably would have started a conversation...lol I think I'd still not like the fact that she did it but would totally understand where it was coming from .....

I really wouldn't care but if I did, I wouldn't have yelled at her like that. I think that was a little much. JMO.

i hope it wasnt a little old lady.
i get where you are coming from but i'm sure she meant no harm. she might have just been admiring your baby you dont know if she has never had grandchildren etc.
just wipe the baby after as much as you want to yell at the person not worth it--sometimes people are just clueless.

Compliments are fine but a stranger touching your baby? I wouldn't have appreciated that. I think I would have just said thank you and moved away from her real fast. I can see your fustration.

No, she was not a little old lady. Admittedly if she had been, I probably wouldn't have said anything. As someone else said, a generational thing. This woman looked to be a few years older than me...mid 30s maybe...definitely old enough (and young enough) to know better.
