Re: I am outraged!
The more I sit here thinking about this, the more I am amazed. I am not sure if I will make my point come across very well, but here goes....
It amazes me that Walmart really doesn't care about its public image at all. They get so much negative press that I would think this would be one instance where they could do something great for someone who worked for them at not a great expense to a company of their size. It's astounding to me that they are able to go after this woman's settlement money and in the end, it won't even matter to consumers. People will continue to shop there because they can undercut everyone and all that matters to Walmart is their bottom line. It's a horrible kind of arrogance, IMO. I guess this is what happens with capitalism, but it really bothers me.

Obviously not here, but in a lot of places WalMart may be the only store for miles - not just for general goods but as a supermarket as well. They drove other local stores out of business so people are left with little or no choice but to shop WalMart.

You're right, I lived in an area for a short amount of time where this was the case. In a rural community, where Walmart bought up vineyards and built a new store - they even drove the KMart out of business there. I was referring more to areas like ours.

Re: I am outraged!
I read about this a while back on Walmart watch, a watchdog site that I came across when I found out that Walmart wants to cut out their fabric depts.
My company is a WM vendor and we do alot of business in quilting fabrics esp. in areas that have no other source of fabrics or anything else in their areas.
They are cutting back on fabrics b/c it costs $ to pay their employees to cut the fabric. If they sell pre-cut fabrics, customers can just pick it up and purchase it.
I also have to say that the men & women who I work with on the phone are always the hardest working, nicest people who want to buy the best fabric they can to make their customers happy. Many of them treat the fabric depts. as if it was their own retail store.
It's true - they don't care. This time they could do the right thing and help this woman and not go after her.
It's all about the dollar and what is good for Walmart.

I was in Super Walmart last night. In other places besides Long Island walmarts are really nice!
I feel really really bad for her. Thats horrible BUT She did sign the paperwork. Walmart was legally right. The family should sue the semi truck that hit her!!
