unfortunatley , this is life. People form opinons on everything.
Move to a communist country where you opinion means $hit. I would be you'll miss all the disdain...
you would be what that I'll miss the disdain.
I think I'd miss iced coffee most...or maybe starbucks on every corner. oh, and sushi for lunch...unless I moved to china
disdain...not so much.
As someone who has had Starbucks in a Communist country in the past year or so, you won't be at a loss for Starbucks necessarily... There were PLENTY of them around!
ETA -- I guess that is my opinions formed by my experience. (Note - your mileage and experience may vary depending on the Communist country of your choice.)

Did you ever think since you work in the field you have to not form an opinion on anyone until you investigate it?
actually, we start out by seeing a sorta pattern, indicating wrong doing or fraud...and then we investigate it.
so I guess we form the OPINION that it could be fraud...and sometimes through actual FACT gathering...either strengthen or weaken our case.
so we are sometimes shown that our opinion WAS in fact, misinformed.
and we sometimes find that our opinon has been bolstered by fact.
and then we get back money for ALL of you.
and I am happy to do it.
Since you have time to talk about this, I'm assuming everyone is pretty much doing the right thing today?

thanks for pointing that out, because apparently that is the only correct way to form an opinion.
If I read somewhere that there were Starbucks in China I couldnt form an opinion about it because I never experienced it. See?

I am completely lost on what is going on!!!!!

I have no opinion or comment on the opinion / judgment / etc. debate... didn't mean that to be one either.

seriously.
yes, this is in reference to beth's thread...and no...I don't care.
I respect that people can form their own opinons based on experiences...but forgive me for mistaking the words EXPERIENCE with casual OBSERVATION.
b/c they are not the same in my book.
and I am sad sad sad that we a a whole have so much disdain for each other.
Your right - Experience is different from casual observation - However, an opinion formed from experience can be just as inaccurate as one formed from a casual observation - It's human nature to think the worst of a questionable situation. And can you really BLAME the person who is working 4 jobs and still needs the food stamps to feed her kid for being disgusted by the 3 people on line in front of her for the same 'benefits' who pulled up in $75,000 cars, dripping in diamonds?
Person A's experience can be totally different from person's B's expereince with the same situation, and therefore they have different opinions .........Who's is right?
And I'm sorry, but can you HONESTLY argue that the majority of those in Beth's 'casual observation' are NOT simply working the system?

what I am arguing that that those TWO people that Beth saw...I have NO idea what they are REALLY up to.
while it is easy for me, based on my experiences to say...they are scammers...I KNOW that there is a chance that I could be making an incorrect assumption about those people.
and you may think that doesn't matter...but to ME, it does.
I just can't do that to people I don't know...b/c I don't think it's right to label someone a POS or whathaveyou if I haven't met them...been touched by them...EXPERIENCED them in some way to say.
it makes me sad that we go around labeling people like that...it feels cosmically WRONG to even THINK badly about a person who hasn't given me any TANGIBLE grounds to think badly of them.
and NO, I don't think that having seen someone ELSE commit a bad act gives me reason enough to pay that assumption forward on someone else.
I am a judger...no doubt. But I am a patient judger. I give the BOTD up to and until you earn your stripes.
that is all I am saying.
I am saying that I cannot wrap my head around soiling a persons character without concrete proof, even if it's only in my head.
hell, I make ATTEMPTs not to do it on these boards...and here I think I have more footing since there is interaction
I just wish people would pause and at least let the possibility of honesty and truth coexist with the idea of dishonesty and fraudulence.
but I am a very mush person and am PMS ing to boot...so maybe more so than most days.

but aside from you telling us... how do you PROVE your experience?
That's why you have to take the debates that play out on here with a grain of salt...
for the most part, we're all just observers willing to share our opinions and experience with everyone else, but no one should expect anyone to think a certain way because THEY think their more entitled.
(not sure how that might be received, but I don't mean it as any disrespect)

please help me b/c I don't quite understand
when I say experience a person, I mean how I experienced YOU, in my house. not you, who I saw across the street.
the part I am confused about really is the part about entitled? I don't feel "entitled" that is probably the most contrary word to every describe me. so I don't know if that is what you mean (and I don't take what you are saying personally at all ) so I am not sure what to say I guess.

no, I'm sorry- I knew I didn't word that correctly.
(when I say YOU... I don't mean YOU Ophelia... I'm speaking in general terms)
for example, for someone to say (and I am TOTALLY paraphrasing b/c I'm supposed to be working right now and am rushed )
"I am speaking from experience, so your opinion to me is just that... just an opinion with nothing to back it...'
how do we KNOW that person is truly speaking from experience and not just a very strong opinion?
you know?
I wrote something else out but realized that I'm just I'm confusing myself now..
just wanted to reply and explain that I didn't mean that YOU feel entitled.
hahahaha.
but... I've noticed (and I'm guilty of it too) that people DO feel a form of superiority b/c they ARE speaking from experience and the person they are chatting with is just expressing their opinion
case in point: the BFing moms v. non moms. you know?
now my point was, (above example excluded for obvious reasons) how do we PROVE to a bunch of *strangers* that we had experience on the topic being discussed, besides just talking about it

ahh I see. interesting.
I just want to clarify again...I am speaking about SPECIFIC people. my whole "argument" I guess is that even IF you experienced fraud every day...unless the two in front of you are KNOWN defrauders to you (like, you know Jack and Jill and know they both work and collect food stamps)...that you don't know if that is Jack and Jills actual situation.
I guess it boils down to giving strangers the same respect and benefit of the doubt I'd want them to give me.

Re: I am sick and sad. sick and sad.
I come from a law enforcement family...for generations and generations. I TRY not to make judgements first, but sometimes it happens, it's based on the experiences of my family and what I have lived with my whole life. I'm not perfect, I just try my best. That's all you can ask of anyone.
Everyone has their own interpretation of EVERYTHING, including the differences between CASUAL OBSERVATION and EXPERIENCE. We may not like it, we may not accept it, but it's there anyway.
