by something posted on pregnancy that I dont think I will EVER, EVER post on there again

Oh well, I stood back all afternoon and just let myself be totally offended but now it reached a whole new level

"Gender Disappointment"


ETA: The poster had originally stated that she and her family were disappointed that she is having a boy and not a girl. Originally I said nothing and agreed with what Jenna wrote but then i saw the poster quoted us and wrote something negative so that made me respond the way I did.

To anyone who might read this from the pregnancy boards-
for the record, Im not saying gender disappointment is a crime. I actually feel sorry for any woman who experiences that since, as we all know, a baby is a blessing.

However, I do feel the nature of the topic was insensitive considering so many of us have gone through losses or fertility issues and contrary to popular belief, no one can say they know what we have been through unless they have.

As was mentioned a million times in that thread and the one headoverheels made... everyone should be entitled to express their opinion, regardless of whether or not everyone on the boards is going to agree.

There are those of us who have been through m/c and IF and still feel that it's not a crime for someone to feel disappointment about gender.

We don't ask for our feelings... we can't control them.

I saw that thread... and the spinoff one... I was amazed at how many commenters were criticizing the people who were pointing out that OP should be happy to have a healthy baby, regardless of gender. I truly don't think those commenters understand how having a m/c can change your perspective on things, and make you very sad to read about things like gender disappointment, when all you are doing is praying that your baby's heart will still be beating at your next sonogram. No one knows what that's like unless you've been there.

Thank you for saying what you did on that thread. Please don't let the negative comments upset you.

ITA with all of this. I knew what post it was when I saw it. Honestly, I don't think she wrote anything awful or too insensitive. I thought she was a little rude to those who posted though.

Lisa don't not go over to the pregnancy board because of certain peoples view on things. I tried my best to write something that was kinda neutral but inside I was seething, and think some people are just so ungrateful for such a blessing and well I won't go into the rest that I feel. I also think it was ridiculous that there had to be a spin off thread, because there was NO need.

.. Anyways! lol, please stay on the pregnancy board, because then I at least have a few friends! lol. And I also want you to be able to get excited about your new baby on the way!! There is enough fear in this world for bad things to happen, don't rob yourself of this wonderful, special time, you don't deserve that!!

I was offended too but I didn't know how to say what I wanted to w/o getting kicked off this website! I think we've all been saying it...people just don't understand what it's like unless they've been through it. Anyone on this board or in the infertility board understands.

Please don't stay off the boards. You have given me hope with your BFP and wonderful doctor's appointment.

Lisa, I completely understand why you were hurt by that thread. I felt the same way reading it. People can't help how they feel, but they can be sensitive to the feelings of others on the boards. My next door neighbor has two boys, and was trying for a girl (or so I've been told by a mutual friend). She told me with a disappointed tone, "oh, it's another boy," and I wanted to be like, "you have no idea how lucky you are."

People are really hating on me over there. I dont know if you girls have been following but I have spent over an hour defending myself to numerous people. Im trying to smooth this out but just for the record, I would never leave the site. I need you girls. I just may not be able to post over there since people are upset with me.
