i am very upset and my blood is boiling right now!
i am not one to post about my mil or family issues but i have to get his off of my chest.
i have been asking my mil for 2 months now if she could watch olivia on the 23rd of june as we are going to the wineries for a special event they have and out to dinner for my folks anniversary. i asked her last week what time she can come and she said 2pm. ok everything seems great.
today i talk to her and she said she is packing. i scratched my head becuase i was unaware she was taking a trip. well apparently she is leaving wednesday for florida and returning on monday. so my response was how are you watching Olivia then. and she said oh im not. then i come to find out that her brother and sil who are hosting her in florida are not taking off work so she will be sitting in their condo while they work (she doesnt know how to drive)
so i am upset becuase we paid for this private party and she tell me now. we lose out deposit and i was looking forward to an evening out with my husband and folks.
i didnt call her back and im not going to give her the satisfaction of telling her im upset.
i called dh and he said im overreacting. and at that point i started telling him how his mother makes no effort with Olivia and thats why olivia doesnt want to go to her when she does see her.

I would be very upset. When was she going to tell you that she was going away?? Or did she forget that she was babysitting.
I dont think you are overreacting.
Can someone else watch her??

I don't blame you for being upset. It's hard when you need someone to be reliable & they're not. It's worse when they don't even give you enough notice & aren't even the least bit sorry about it.

the problem is olivia is very attached to me and she freaks out when dh watches her when i go to the store. only person she is really comfortable with is my mom and she is so so with my mil but we never see his sister and olivia couldnt spend the whole day with her. she is alot of work and that would mean that she would feed her, put her to sleep and change her. my sil has no kids and has never watched her. i have a brother how has a baby olivias age but they live in the city and olivia wouldnt stay over there. i guess if olivia wasnt so attached it would be easier.

This isn't because Olivia is attached to you. This is because the person that agreed to babysit bailed out on you with no notice.
If you have someone else to watch her (even the SIL), I say do it. Yes she's attached to you but the way to get her to stop is to have her interact with others. I'm not saying drop her off at a strangers house. But she will survive an overnight stay somewhere.

Barbara, i totally understand what you are saying but i dont want to be out east and have my sil call me up because olivia is crying mama. this happened when i went to the doctors 2 weeks ago with my husband. she was crying uncontrollably where she couldnt catch her breath. and she didnt stop till i got home. how am i going to relax and be comfortable knowing that my sil has never watched her and doesnt know how to. i would trust a stranger before my sil to be quite honest. She has seen my daughter maybe 5 times since she has been born and she lives in the city. i dont want to have her do it becuase i want to go out so bad. i have to be comfortable leaving olivia too. its not fair to have olivia hysterical when she doesnt need to. i have been leaving her for an hour here and there with my mom and she seems to be find but to leave her from 2pm -10pm when im over an hour away isnt fair in my opinion.

lucky, my fil hasnt seen his grand daughter in 4 months. they live 30 mintues away and he is retired. i was going over once a month and going to lunch with him so he could see the baby.- then we were in florida in april and my dh was home sick with a high fever for 2 days and i couldnt fly out to get to him so i asked my fil if dh took a train to his town could he drive him 5 minutes away to the doctor so he can get medical attention and my fil said no im busy. so since then we have not heard from him or saw him. its very sad why these people would make no effort for this beautiful child.

I couldn't agree more. I have IL's who are exactly like that! They claim to care but when DD had colic for 4 months....not one of them EVER came over or even offered to help out in anyway. It's their loss in the end. But I agree it's very sad that they are missing out on your beautiful daughter's young life! You just keep doing your thing, girl! You are raising an absolutely beautiful little one!!!!!

hell, girl! i would be pee'd off, too! i also have MIL issues so vent all you need. hmm i wish there was a smiley face for kicking and another smiley face for MIL. now THAT's waht i would love to see!

I think the most infuriating part of this whole thing is that your DH actually thinks you are overreacting. I'm sorry but I would be SO p!ssed at your MIL.
I'm so sorry your MIL was so inconsiderate and unreliable.

i wish my dh would get a pair of balls and say something to her. oh forgot to add she has been to florida once a month for the last 6 months and when we talked about florida recently she said she wasnt going till july and now she got a super deal and couldnt pass it up. so she can sit in a hot apartment for 4 days doing nothing. sounds like fun to me.

totally out of line and I would be SOO Pizzed off....I hope you find someone to help you out and take care of your little one that day so you can still carry out your plans. I would make sure to bail on her the next time she makes plans - I know immature but I would give her a spoon of her own medicine.

I am so sorry.
I'd be fuming not only at MIL but DH as well.
Do any of your friends have kids that maybe you could leave DD with. If she is interacting with other children it may take her mind of mom for a bit.
I hope you can work something out, and again, I am sorry.

I would be FUMING especially at DH. I can totally relate to this.... sorry you are going through this.
I would watch Olivia if I wasn't already babysitting for my sister's Olivia.

I totally agree with you - that sucks!
If your DH is very much into going this weekend with you - tell HIM that HE has to find a babysitter for Olivia. Show him how hard it is to make these arrangements sometimes!
Maybe then he will undertand why you are so upset about it!
