I forgot to tell you all- LIRR Story

Last night on the train home there was a cell phone talker sitting in front of me.
This was not the night to be annoying me I was majorly PMSing and in no mood to listen to his conversations.

He finally gets off the phone and I think "ok, fine." But then of course calls someone else. So I start grumbling and say "Can you please get off the phone." Then of course dh starts begging me not to say anything like he usually does, and the guy is still talking. But like I said, this was NOT the day to pi$$ me off.
So I BANG on the seat and he turns around (while on the phone) so I say "Get off the phone, its ANNOYING." and guess what? he got off the phone and didn't make a peep for the rest of the ride. Chat Icon

People often bring me to the brink of doing that, but I chicken out in the end. Good to know you did something and it worked out. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: I forgot to tell you all- LIRR Story

I don't take the LIRR, I take subways, and there's no cell phone reception, but is talking on the phone prohibited?

When I used to take the express bus - peple on cell phones were not permitted to sit within the first four rows of the driver, since it was a distraction....but is there a law/rule about cell phones on the train?

No rule - there are announcements regarding courtesy but there's no rule about using a cell phone on the LIRR.

You can use phones but, you are supposed to be considerate of other passengers.

Thank you for clarifying.

In regards to the OP - I commend you for doing so....

but to play devil's advocate...if it was me that was on the phone (which is the ONLY time I can speak on the phone is during my commute) - I would continue my conversation and probably louder jsut b/c I know it annoyed you.

Re: I forgot to tell you all- LIRR Story

My RR ride is one hour long. If someone can't stay off their phone for the entire hour, then they need to stay in the office longer or hire a taxi for their commute. It is not right for everyone else to have to listen to them for any serious length of time. That is also why the MTA announcements say to make the phone calls short and quiet, or to move to the vestibule of the the train. If you can be quiet, then I have no problem with you. There are however some people that do not understand the term inside voice.

Three words of advice.... cell phone jammer.
