Re: I got a speeding ticket this morning!

for anyone criticizing Beth - how many of you would NOT leverage something or someone to your advantage if it were available to you?

ie: if your friend worked at Coach or Banana Republic and could get you a 50% off discount, would you not take advantage of that b/c it’s “stealing”?

just curious.

why not? if your friend worked at a store you loved and the discount only applied to her and she used it to buy you something, that's technically stealing. I just think it's a little hypocritical to criticize Beth for using leverage to get out of that ticket. like no one else has ever done something to try and get out of tickets. and for the record, I got a speeding ticket once for going 50 in a 30 mph zone and had to pay the price. I have no feelings of resentment towards Beth.

Re: I got a speeding ticket this morning!

agreed- Speeding is dangerous- (coming from someone who lost 3 people within two years to car accidents) BUT, how many of us can say that we NEVER speed? She was just venting about getting a ticket- something a lot of us would do. I am sure she realizes that speeding is dangerous

exactly! I think the judging has been a little out of control lately. she wasn't asking for opinions on whether she should get her uncle involved.

I don't want to start a war here, but I have a feeling that people are more upset with Beth "getting away with it" more so than with the speeding, PBA card, family connection, etc.

Would I use my PBA cards- HECK YEAH! ALL OF US WOULD.

But, like I said, I think people are more fired up with her "getting away with it"...like the rules apply to some people, but not others.

you're probably right

And for the record- I got one speeding ticket last year- first time ever- it sucked- and if I could have "gotten out of paying" I would have... come on...how many wouldn't?

nope. But If I get a ticket I deserve it, will I be pizzed.. yeah. But I will pay it or fight it like every other law breaker.

If you want to handle it that way, fine. Just dont flaunt it without expecting to be called on it.

if I was able to get out of a ticket, I wouldn't think twice about it! not only are you saving $, but your insurance can go up, you can get points, it's all bad! and EVERYONE speeds. not saying it's the right thing to do, but come on. like everyone here has driven no more than 10 MPH through a parking lot right? that is the max speed limit in any p-lot.

That's exactly my point. People are upset because they probably can't get out of it.

I think it's a feeling of "How come *I* have to deal with these things, but she doesn't"

Just my 2 cents here, I am not criticizing anyone, and yes I have gone over the speed limit but I think the vent was not the speeding persay, but the trying to get out of a ticket was the issue.
I am sure that you were just keeping up with traffic beth, and you just happened to get caught. I think the point of those who "criticized" was that the law is the law. What if someone was going 150mph but had a relative that was a cop. Would that person get out of that ticket because of family connections...
I guess people just get frustrated when they hear about "working the system." Maybe its out of jealousy or genuine concern, but I think THAT was the point of those who posted what they did.

I don't care if you call me on it- I am happy to say that I have a PBA and I use it - the Police give them out- so your problem should be with the police not with me for using it

and if that makes me a bad person- then so be it!

I have a PBA card, but I don't use it. When I get pulled over, I've done something wrong. And I accept it and do what I have to do like a big girl to make it right.

I don't think I should get any preferential treatment just because I know someone who is a cop. Just because they are risking their lives every day, doesnt mean I can put someone elses life at risk without any consequences.

Just my two cents!
