I hate home decorating
I finally decided to do something about the unfinished wood front door. I went out and bought a stain. I hate it!!! It is way too dark and it did not come out right. We think the door was not stripped enough to do this (previous owner stripped it and it looked ok). Every time I choose a color for the house, I hate the way it comes out. I am so bad at this
Now I may have to buy a whole new door. We are not sure we can paint over the stain and I do not want to use anything oil based. What a waste of money

go to your local Sherwin Williams or Aboff's and tell them what you did. Maybe they can help you and recommend somthing to go over it.

You can definitely PAINT over stain you will just need a good primer first... The guys at Aboff's are great - or Janovic...
You prob won't be able to restain you will have to paint if you want to change it...

We will probably have to sand it first, right? I am concerned how that will come out
I don't live on LI so there is no Aboffs here. DH is going to go to the Benjamin Moore store tomorrow to see what they suggest.
I found a plain wood door (which is what we have now) at Lowes for $142 which is not bad. I just would prefer to not spend that money.
