Do you hate being home alone when DH is away?

Dh has to go away for work till Friday. I can never sleep when he is gone. We have an alarm system and a dog (small dog , but has a decent bark) and I still get so nervous being home alone overnight

How do you get through the night?


Also - since my parents house fire 2 weeks ago I am also nervous of havig a fire in my house. I have smoke detectors in every room but I am so scared of something happening when I am home alone.

Yes...and I am such a big baby about it. I carry the phone with me through the entire house and get scared over the littlest noise.

But....thankfully nothing bad has ever happened...so it's okay All of those horror movie images I've had in my head never happen

yes - I keep every light on in the house and have the cordless phone with me in bed.

please I am such a chicken, I leave the lights on in the living room and sleep with my bedroom door locked...

I am the same way. DH will soon be on nights for a few months, so I'm going to have to get over it real fast.

It doesn't bother me, i'm used to it. DH ships out for 3 weeks at a time. Its just me and DD.

He only went away once overnight since we have been married.

I invited my friend, sister and neice to spend the night with me so I didn't have to be alone.

We had a nice girls night!

I love being alone, I grew up an only child so I cherish what solitude I can get. The fire thing is a phobia of mine as well. I hate even plugging things in.

I live alone, and being alone in a house doesn't phase me anymore.

as long as i can get him on the phone it doesn't bother me... sometimes it's nice having the bed to myself

i HATE being alone when he is away or working a midnight.

i always have this fear.

good - at least I am not the only paranoid one! I actually sleep in the living room when DH is away so I can hear noises in the house better.

I enjoy the quiet time when he is away. No tv, I can sit on the computer for as long as I want, and I can curl up on the couch with a book.

We rent, and we have a tenant upstairs and downstairs. So any noises I hear, I blame on them. No point in psyching myself up.

I do miss him when I go to sleep though. It's not the same when he's not there.

Um no, I get the bed to myself with no elbows jabbing me in the night. And I don't have to cook. Double bonus.

I hate it when FH is gone. He's also gone right now thru next week for work so it's just me and the dog. I don't have trouble at night mostly because we rent an apt. in a house so there's always someone else around (just in a different part of the house) but I still get nervous.

To make myself feel better I just try and do all of the things I wouldn't normally do when he's home... cook fish for dinner... watch what I want in bed... wash my bras and hang them in the shower not worrying about them getting in FH's way... may seem so insignificant but it makes it a little easier.

I feel I can speak from experience so here goes.
My hubby works nights- 5 nights a week I sleep alone.
I am the biggest scardey cat in the nation.
The first few months we were living in the house- I didn't sleep. I would basically stay up in the living room with the TV on and the lights blaring until the sun rose.
I would doze off- of course- but not a full sleep.

After a few weeks of this- exhaustion took over- and my fears seemed a lot less huge than my need for sleep!
I eventually moved to the bedroom like a normal human being.

Now it's been a few years and I can say I am over it.

I still have a few things I need to do- I sleep with the alarm on, the door to the bedroom locked, my cell phone at my side, and with one ear open (I think) at all times.
I also sleep with the TV on- brings some light to the room- but it's on low volume so I can hear of any odd noises.
I don't think I could take the complete silence though- every creak would freak me out.

Eventually you do get used to it- even big ole chickens like me!!!

When DH worked nights I hated it for about 2 minutes. Once I realized that big bed was all mine, I could eat/not eat dinner and just watch whatever I wanted . . .. HEAVEN.

Don't get me wrong, I missed him, but it was a nice break

Nope. I lived on my own so long that I often crave time to myself without having to account for my actions. It doesnt make me love him or miss him any less. I truly love having the bed to myself. I am never scared nor do I feel unsafe without him - I was pretty independent before he came along and managed just fine.

No way - I love it.
It takes me longer to fall asleep, but other than that, I'm fine.

I hate it. I either stay over my parents' house or my mom comes and stays with me. I have ALWAYS been this way. I hate being alone in a house.

I don't ENJOY being home alone without DH, but after dealing with it for months on end while he was in the military, I can handle the weeklong business trips.

DH travels every few months for work.. i usually manage pretty well. i have the dog for company
i actually like it because i get the TV to myself, the bed to myself, AND i don't have to worry about making a real meal i think its good for us to have a break every once in awhile. i just try to make the most of it

I'm used to it. Sometimes I like having ceral for dinner and watching Sex & the City DVDs and just having time to myself. LAst night when it looked like we might get a big storm I felt anxious being alone. One time our alarm went off at night when he wasn't here (false alarm) and I was TERRIFIED! It can OK, though. Just like Ang-Rich said, I carry the phone around with me
