He also says he sees plenty of people who take their Medicaid cards out of the Vuitton bags
Sorry, not to pick on you specifically .. but there have been several posts on this thread about ' my friend so and so says blah blah about illegals, and points out that they had a Coach bag, or an LV bag, or drove a nice car'
SO WHAT???? Since when does the type of bag someone carries say anything about them other than they like that brand? For all you know it was a knock-off, or she got it as a gift, or it was given as payment for a kind deed, or perhaps.. she saved up all her money to be able to buy one. Who knows! The assumptions people make on here about illegal immigrants (or anyone for that matter) is appalling.
I have a Coach bag.. know why? Because my DH works for them. I don't pay for them. I'd love to see the assumptions made about me because i have an expensive bag
seriously people.. stop being so judgmental about others, it's an ugly habit

I'm saying it b/c of what my husband does for a living. Trust me, we are two of the most liberal people you will EVER meet.
But when someone calls 911 for something in which they could drive their nice car (true story) to the hospital for b/c they are on Medicaid and therefore "free" to them, that is wrong.
Your quote is totally out of context of what I was saying. It has nothing to do with you or your bags.
ETA- These people I am speaking of ARE taking advantage of "the system". It doesn't have anything to do with the bag, that was just the example.
ETA2-I am not making assumptions, I am speaking from my husband's experiences

Totally agree with you on the 911 context - absolutely wrong. Maybe i shouldn't have quoted you as you were talking about a different circumstance it was just that your quote was the last one i read
my point was in general about the assumptions people make about others based upon the type of bag or accessory someone has

well since I am the one that referenced the coach bag I will comment- she owned a coach purse and didnt or couldnt or wouldnt buy her baby motrin- I dont care if it was real or a fake- even what you would pay for a fake would cover the cost of a bottle of motrin- thats a huge problem and yea, I do judge someone like that- flame away

But the point is you were not there. You didn't ask her what her intentions were, if she was illegal, what was wrong with her baby, why she didn't want to buy Motrin, why she had a Coach bag, why she felt she had to come to the ER instead of the pharmacy etc.. You're just passing along the same story that everyone else does that you think bolsters your complaint about illegal immigrants. The point is that you don't know her story.. so the assumptions made are just inflammatory

Re: I have a HealthCare question
People milk the system. Legal and illegal. And people who 'work' the system know it better than those who created it.
Illegals can get medicaid and they do. My DH has dealt with pregnant illegals who continually get pregnant so they are covered by medicaid. But he has done the same for legals.
It actually bothers me more when I see able body citizens with all their luxuries, yet they won't buy insurance. No one wants to sacrifice.

I can see your frustration with people making assumptions...at the same time, my husband sees unbelievable things just as Kate's husband does. Sometimes unless you are in that line of work (cop, firefighter, EMT) you don't realize how people abuse the system, how cruel people can be and to be honest, how stupid people can be.

Re: I have a HealthCare question
I've got news for everyone--when I studied abroad in England where they have the NHS, I wasn't ALLOWED to get health care there because I wasn't a citizen. I had to go to a clinic and PAY out of pocket, on the spot, for medical care.
I don't understand why it won't be the same here?
I was broke, I was in college. And I'm pretty sure they would've denied me treatment unless my wallet was open.
Oh and I had serious food poisoning, not that it matters, but accompanied by 104 fever.

Same thing happened to DH on our honeymoon. We were at one of the islands and as soon as we walked in the door to the hospital we had to pay $100 just to be seen + supplies, etc. afterwards.

Re: I have a HealthCare question
I guess having a coach bag means you will never fall on hard times????
I would never want to sit in the ER for hours to save the cost of mortin for my baby- if I had the money
I know people abuse the system- but I also know that things aren't always what they seem....driving a nice car doesn't mean your rich- same for carrying a coach bag- which is why it's isn't fair to make assumptions

I agree with this. It makes me angry when people abuse the system too, but I only hope that I am never in a situation where I feel I have no other options.
