I have a nook!
But it's being held hostage in wrapping paper under my christmas tree. It's driving me crazy. Do you girls all lend each other books?

Re: I have a nook!
I have a feeling that is where mine is too (I asked for GCs so I can go buy one after Christmas but I think DH got it for me).
I would love to share books.

You guys are going to love them!
I have shared books in the past, but my brother is getting one for Christmas so I'm going to give him first shot at all my books.

Lending is really easy. You go to the book in your Nook library or in your library at BN.com. Click on Lend Me. Put in the other person's email address. BN sends them an email with the book offer and they have 7 days to accept the offer and then they get to keep the book for 14 days after that, but can return it sooner if they finish it sooner. You can't read that book while it's lent out.
Once you lend a book you can't lend it again and not all books are eligible to be lent. For example, the Twilight books can't be lent, not sure if it's S. Meyer or the publisher not allowing it.
As far as I know you can only lend books through BN.com, not books you've purchased elsewhere.
There is a facebook group of people willing to lend books, as well as some of the people on some of the Nook discussion boards.
HTH!

Re: I have a nook!
I would love to share but I get so many of my reads from the library. I did share my library card number w/ my mom so she can get books from library if she can't get them at hers. I'm going to look at that facebook group.
Thanks for that info.!

Thanks for sharing in my excitement ladies. I'm going to try and convince DH to let me open it as a late Chanukah present. I'll let you all know when we can start sharing books

Don't think so... good question tho. I don't think you download it, it's just there through the B & N system.

Mine too! Actually, mine's currently in Horsham, PA en route to me, then it's going under the tree till Christmas.
I don't know anything about lending books, but I do have a question about the free nook books on barnesandnoble.com. I've been surfing the website, and I noticed a lot of Jane Austen sequels were on the free book list, and now they are not. Is it like the books are listed for one day only and you need to check it everyday? Or did I just catch it at the end of the month or something?

A B&N box came last week to my house and I'm thinking that's my Nook or NookColor! It's in DH's closet right now, not even wrapped!

Those ones are their Classics series, but you can find other versions of the classics for free if you google online. They are public domain. The BN ones have been edited to be read on the Nook, where the others are usually pdf scans of a physical book and not always as easy to read on the Nook, but definitely doable.
A lot of the books are free for only a limited time and then they go back to regular price. Every Friday they give away a book (a lot of romance novels and paranormal stuff it seems) and over the summer they gave away a bunch of classics, which they've been offering every Friday again for the holidays.
They post the Friday Freebie a few places, but I usually check the Unbound Blog for the link(s).

After seeing the barnes and noble package I started researching this. I think this page was helpful.

Are you in nassau or suffolk? I don't know what the website to download. If you're in nassau the website to download books is overdrive.com, not sure about suffolk but I'm sure someone posted it on here

Queens is also an overdrive site - I'm guessing all of NY is.
I have Nassau, Suffolk, Queens, and Philly and they are all Overdrive.

The first are audiobooks that you can listen to on mp3 players and on the Nook, the epubs are ebooks you can read on the Nook.
