I have anxiety leaving my pup
Ever since he ran away last week I have anxiety leaving him.. its like I'm the one with seperation anxiety! Usually he goes to my parents house for "doggy day care" - that is where he ran away from. I haven't let him go over there since. Luckily my DH has been working nights this week so the dog is not alone but next week he works days and I have to bring my pup back over. I seriously have anxiety over it.
If my mom is home with him I will be ok bc I know she will keep an eye out.. but if she has to leave him alone with my brothers - then I just cant do it (my brother is the one who didnt watch him last time when he escaped)
How pathetic am i? lol I feel like I am going to call every 20 minutes to check on him. DH and I are even considering cancelling a weekend trip we had planned bc I really feel that anxious about leaving him
I just needed to vent. I need a life

He can.. its just a very long day for him. I have noone to let him out to use the bathroom.. and he is very very hyper so he tends to get almost depressed when he doesn't get to run around. I dont have a backyard to let him run around in when I get home.. i try taking him for walks at night, but being pregnant I can not give him the energetic walks he needs
I guess I just feel bad too. My parents love him and beg for him to come over and he LOVES going over there. He runs around, swims in the pool.. etc.. and I just don't want to deny him that.

Aww...I understand comepletely!! I have a doggie too and I feel bad leaving him at home.
Maybe on the days that he goes to your parents and your mom has to run out she can drop him off at your house while she is running her errands and then pick him back up so there is no risk of your brothers not paying attention and he escapes again.
Its so hard because he is your baby and he always will be...even after your baby comes.

Re: I have anxiety leaving my pup
Why not get a dog walker to come a few days a week....the days your mom wouldn't be around.
I had to get a dog walker for Rocky when I went back to work and it has worked out great. They come 3 days a week and walk, feed and play with him.

Yea I will probably do that.. a mix of that and having my mom watch him when he is home. I sound like such an overprotective dog mommy

i know how you feel!
the two times DH and i went away for a week, we left him with IL's and i was so sad!! even if we go away for a long weekend someplace, we make sure that the place we are going to is doggie friendly so we can bring him

Re: I have anxiety leaving my pup
I can relate and it's not pathetic! You are traumatized that you almost lost your pup!!! I hear what you are saying about your mom and your brothers....
Do your brothers feel guilty and might they change their ways? Otherwise, yes, I would be very worried to have my dog go there again. Yet you dont want to leave him alone either. Hard choice. I am just so glad you got him back b/c many times people don't get their pets back alive. So can you take that chance if they aren't clearly going to change their ways?

How old are your brothers? Can you speak to them and see if they feel badly about what happened and will change their ways? I can see why you want him to go to your parents. I would do the same. My dog is hyper too and I could never leave him alone for a long day.

Re: I have anxiety leaving my pup
Dude, if you're overprotective and pathetic, you are in good company. But I call it being a good dog parent. Don't be embarrassed. If everyone cared as much as you did, there would be a lot less shelter animals out there.
I agree with using all your options to avoid having your brothers watch him. I would do the same. What town do you live in? Maybe there are good dog walkers in the area. I have a great one but she only services the Smithtown area and I think she might be pricey compared to others... I'm not sure.
There are also doggie day care centers around. I had a bad experience with one in Ronkonkoma though, so if you want opinions on places, you should post a thread.
Good luck

My brother didn't seem like he felt too bad but I did tell him it wasn't entirely his fault. I mean the dog dug a hole REAL fast and got out - He knew he should have put his collar on and knew he needs to keep an eye on him but whatever.
What upset me the most was the next day we all went to a block party and I took the dog with me. I let him off his leash (with his collar on!!!!! lol) bc he really is good off of his leash, he always listens and doesnt run. I asked me brother to watch him for 2 minutes and when I got back he was eating and talking to someone and AGAIN didnt know where my dog was... he was just in a bush and came running when I called him but I was pizzed... i mean cmon.. so i just dont feel like I can trust him anymore

I am going to look into dog walkers and talk to my mom about her possibly watching him until she goes out then dropping him off at home. I will try and figure it out this weekend...
