Oh it's so hard. I mean, I have friends...wonderful friends actually...but I need girls to hang with, go to the gym with, take a class, meet for lunch, a drink, coffee, shop etc. It's definitely a process because it's not like every potential friend I meet is someone I can see spending time with...it's like dating...

Yay! I'm glad it was better this time. You are definitely not socially defective. I have to remind myself sometimes, when it comes to meeting people in my complex that I'm not the weird one when I go up & introduce myself to someone. It's not High School, it's a normal thing to do.
My other advice is accept whatever invitations you receive, even if they aren't something you would normaly do, you may go with a running acquaintaince to a candle party, & meet her SIL & she may become your new shopping buddy or something.
