I have questions for those whose kids are already potty trained
I spent the last two days at home working on potty training my DD.
So far so good - no "real" accidents.
She will sometimes pee a little in her underwear and then panic and stop it. At that point I can put her on her potty and she will go.
So today is day #3, and I guess my question is how long does it take for them to recognize that they have to pee before they are basically bursting? (so we can actually leave the house one day).
Also how long did you wait to transition them from the potty chair to the real toilet (if you used one).
Oh - one more question...how long can your kids go between bathroom trips.
I notice for her its about a 3-4 hour gap in the morning but in the afternoon she seems to go every hour...??

Re: I have questions for those whose kids are already potty trained
My son has been trained for 6 months and he still likes to hold it until he is ready to explode. But I would say in 2 weeks he had a batter handle on it in general as far ask waiting to the very last minute and feeling comfy going as soon as he has the urge. I stayed home the 1st week. the second week - I stayed home a lot too but when we went out for long times - I used diapers. By week 3, we went everywhere diaper free.
I think we used the potty chair for about a week or two. Poop took longer to do in the toilet, he preferred his potty for that for a full two weeks.
He pee'd much less once he was trained. He can hold it for a long time. He geos much less in the morning as well. Usually 2 times before noon and then a lot after that. I have a friend whose daughter can go sometimes 6-8 hours in the day before going!!
GOOD LUCK with the training. I wish you continued success!!

Re: I have questions for those whose kids are already potty trained
We left the house right away but we were on DD like a hawk even when we were out. Like every hour or so we would take her to the bathroom. We got one of those fold up potty seats. Even if she said she didn't have to go we would make her try. Sometimes she would go, sometimes she wouldn't but we figured that's how she would learn the sensation of having to go.

I'm still working out the kinks with Jared. You'll notice their body signals. I see Jared squirming and I ask him...other times, he tells me.
We started taking trip out shopping and I make him pee before we go. As soon as we get home...we go straight to the potty...just incase. I think the longest we've been out is 3 hours.

Re: I have questions for those whose kids are already potty trained
It took her about 3-4 days of solid pottytraining before she really got it. It seems to me that T is VERY close because she stops herself. I'd give her another day or two and start venturing out.
When I first took Alex out it was a quick shopping trip. I made sure she peed before we left, and while we were out, I would bring a little bag of skittles, and would convince her to use the potty while we were out by offering a skittle to her. It just took ONE time when we were out, and that was it, she got it.
It took some time to transition her to the big kid toilet. About a month, because it intimidated her. We started at home, and then ventured out to toilets at friends' houses. I always brought the seat cover with me whenever we went out, and that's how I was able to slowly transition her to the real toilet.
Sometimes Alex has to go 3 times in a hour, and sometimes she goes once in four hours. There's no rhyme or reason to it!

Thanks Ladies - we had a small setback today (don't worry Barb - I kept her in a diaper while wearing the fairy dress!) and wore diapers - but now we are home and back on the potty.
