I know I've posted about this before...but speech questions related to toddlers
So my boys are 2 and 3 months. I was at the Dr the other day with one of my sons and there was a little girl there that was one month younger than he was. She was speaking very clearly. Here is an example of what she was saying and then an example of how my boys would say it:
Girl: Mama can we read this book? My kids: Mama nee(sit ) wee(read) boooook.
Their receptive language is awesome...they understand concepts, do this that and the other thing(complicated requests) etc. They joke about things.
They still do not use the right words although we do consistently...as in the example above
neee for sit or chair more for water or milk. They even say more if they see a body of water like a pond or lake or even a puddle.
They were slightly premature, but should be well caught up by now. is this something I should be worried about? My Dr does not seem concerned

Re: I know I've posted about this before...but speech questions related to toddlers
I think there is a huge range in when kids start speaking clearly and in full sentences. My daughter is about the same age as your boys. (her bday is 12/1/08). She speaks really well, but she did not say a first real word until very late. maybe between 13 and 15 mths. (before that, she only said da da and dat, for that, even though she clearly understood a lot of words.) then she went right to speaking 2 and 3 words sentences, and now i can have a full conversation with her. If you are worried, there is no harm in talking to your ped about it, but I think that sometime between 1.5 and 3 kids hit a take off point with their speech.

don't some twins have their own 'language'? maybe it's that. they are still young though and from what u say doing well for their age. i would continue to use the correct word and have them repeat the word (say milk and only give them the milk when they attemped it, don't accept 'more'.) just keep modeling and they will get it.

My DD is a month younger than your guys....Her vocabulary is crazy BUT she also has an older sibling to keep up with all day long and she is a girl ( which they say "can" be an advantage) ...She speaks in paragraphs at this point, but she went from single words, to 2 word sentences to longer sentences to paragraphs in what felt like overnight..
From what you are describing , they sound like they are well within normal limits for their age and the fact that your doctor is not concerned should give you some comfort since he is exposed to children of this age range daily...
I have also heard with twins that they sometimes develop their own language so maybe that is part of it ?
If you really have a gut concern (and only you as the mommy would have that) , be bold with the ped and see if you can have them seen by someone. It certainly can't hurt.... I'll bet they'll be jibber jabbering in no time

Re: I know I've posted about this before...but speech questions related to toddlers
I think that J&M are about where your kids are, they have really just started to say a lot more words, put more words together very recently. There is definitely "twin speak" going on, i am sure Ronan and Declan do this too. J&M are just now starting to replace some of the twin words with the regular words, but they still go back to their own language pretty often. Its so hard not to compare them with other kids, i do t he same. When I took them for their 2 yr appt all the ped asked is if they were starting to use 2-word sentences, which they are, so he had no concerns.

Re: I know I've posted about this before...but speech questions related to toddlers
I just spoke to my son's SLP about this on Friday and he is 3 1/2. She said that there is a HUGE range for articulation to improve and that if there isn't some underlying reason for poor articulation (low muscle tone etc...) then we'd worry about it after age 4.
