I try to respond to all the photos. Because I know what's it like. Sometimes it seems once a baby becomes toddler size the comments are lacking. Forget it if they are over 5 or 6.
I remember when your son was like 1 of 5 kids on LIW/LIF. I love seeing pics of him when you post them and seeing how much he's grown!

See now I don't think that's all too true. DS is 9 and I post about him and typically get responses. I know others with school aged children also do. Sometimes I'll post about other things and get no responses though. I guess it just depends on who is on the board at any given time!
I do notice that there are certain people that will post pictures out the wazoo and never post a comment about other people's pictures. Weird, but whatever works for them I guess

Sometimes I think this board gets to be a popularity contest. I hate that part of it because we are not in high school anymore. Funny you posted this, because I was just thinking all of this the other day.
Although I want to start a rant, I will hold myself back

ALL of the babies here are beautiful!
This site is a lot like real life in some ways...there is a social structure here - like it or not. There are newer people - older people - friends - enemies...it just is what it is. IMHO you can't expect everyone to be treated the same by everyone else...it's just not the human way.
That being said - I think you should post pics of your kids because you love them and you are proud of them. If you are expecting external validation from others here - then I wouldn't bother posting - it's not fair to have those expectations.

I agree with Palebride. I like posting pics of my kid, regardless of whether people comment on them or not.
But I don't really think people should not post pictures because they don't get comments, IHMO, that is just silly and propagating some type of social system.
I also have noticed that it makes a difference when you post ANYTHING. It seems the board is busier at different times of day or evening and sometimes if you miss that window you miss that window. Someone could post the same question at a busier time and get 3 pages of answers, I honestly don't believe that someone's name will get them more responses.

Thanks... they aren't the chubby baby mush face cute like most of the gorgeous little schmoos on here (EJ to name one!  ) so i keep the pics to a minimum... but I love hearing about everyone's adventures in parenting!
What are you talking about...I just looked at your photo albums and your children are soooo cute.
I personally do not post any pictures of my DS ( I do not even know how to post pics....lol), nor do I respond to other people's post of their children, though I think all the children on here are beautiful. I just could not keep up all the posting and I would want to be fair and respond to everyone. I do have pics of my DS in my photo albums.
I do not post many questions or info on this site therefore when I do, I do not get much of a response, so I understand. I also do not respond to a million posts. I try to respond to some.
I really like this site because it has given me so much helpful information and I thank all of you. I really would like to meet some people on here, but I live in Brooklyn, and I do not think many people on here are from Brooklyn.

well, I typically don't get a lot of reponses from my pictures or any other type of post I do. Recently I came to realization that especially when I'm running short of time I pay attention more to posts of people I am familiar with and ones that I've met before. So I'm guilty of it. However, if I am sitting down with time I DO respond to all relevant posts, especially picture ones. Usually during the weekdays I can pop on for a few minutes at a time because I am at work, like now, so I can't possibly respond to a lot. Usually it is weekends when I have them time but unfortunately not a lot of people post on weekends. Oh well.

I've noticed since I've been back at work it's hard for me to keep up with everything on here.
So when I have the time to jump on I look for the posts of the people I know.
I'll even admit I respond more to the Jersey girls now that I've met you all.
Nothing against everyone else, but sometimes it's all I have time for.

It's about other posters that I have seen and comments I have gotten about this situation. I just feel badly because a lot of the time peole get deterred from posting at all, which is very sad and I don't want to see that.
As for me, I post pictures of my baby for the people who WANT to see them and don't care who else responds. But I do see how it makes people feel and I know that they aren't going to say anything, so I said it for them.
Plus, it's no secret that the parenting board just isn't what it used to be. It's really sad

See i'm in CT and it's extremely hard for me to meet many of you ladies at GTG's since they are during the week, or fall on weekends i cannot come down to NY. I've been with most of you since LIW-got married in 04 and came to LIF. You guys are my connection to NY, I miss LI like crazy! And there's nothing like this site here in CT.
I post to lots of threads-pics, support yet, and the response to my posts are nothing like that comparitively. So how does one explain that?
I'm not upset or do i take anything personally, but this site is INDEED clicky. I know i tend to reply to my "friends" postings first cause it's just not the same here. I don't buy into the time of day blah blah thing either.
I also feel badly for posting that only have like 50 views and no responses, if i can add something i will cause we are all here to support each other.

Honestly...I mentioned a few months back to split the boards into over 1 and under 1. We are just PILING with names that I dont even recognize anymore. BUTTTT...that doesnt stop me or deter me from posting how cute their baby is. And I certainly DO NOT answer ONLY my circle of friends. I dont know what the answer is but ...well I do...I love my Gilly and thats all that counts. Oh and ...To all the mommies...known and unknown...LIF babies are the cutest

What did it "used to be"? I've been around these boards a LONG time (going on 6 years!) and I've always admired the Parenting board for being a great, supportive group of moms (and some dads!). I followed this board way before I had DD and I am very glad to be a part of it now.

I haven't really noticed a change.
Some posters have a lot more friends then others and they tend to get more replies but that's just friends being friends.

I go through phases. Sometimes (like lately) I'm comfortable with posting pics of my kids. Sometimes I'm not. It depends on my mood, what's going on in my life, whatever.
If people respond, great. If they don't, whatever. I know that my kids are gorgeous, I don't care what anyone else thinks.
I'm not always great at responding to photo threads. After a while it feels insincere to write stuff like "So cute!" or whatever over and over and over. Again, it depends on my mood. If that makes me less popular, so be it.

My take on this is that as people's kids get older, they look for other people's input less and less. You get more confident. Your kids can communicate and it's less of a guessing game. Whatever. So you tend to move onto other things, but still come back here to help out where you can. I can't remember what my kids were doing at the young ages, so I can't really respond to those threads anymore. Just like I don't really remember what week I started going for internals when I was preggo, so I can't answer over on pregnancy as much any more.

I post pictures because I think my baby is cute. If other people want to respond, great, but if not, it doesn't really bother me.
There are times I post and I get pages of responses, and other times not so much. I think it does have a lot to do with timing. But no matter what, I still think my kid is cute, and will always think that, no matter how many people agree with me!
I agree with this....I hope no one takes it personal that more people may get responses...
