I need a quick answer to a formula question

I gave DD a formula bottle last night. She only took a little bit, so I put the rest in the fridge.

Is it safe to give her today? The water was room temp to begin with, so it was never warmed up.

Just wondering if it's ok, I'm new to this whole formula thing Chat Icon TIA!

I wouldn't. If she already drank from it, there could be bacteria in the bottle. I would make a new batch to be safe.

yes, i always did. if it's just a tiny bit left in the bottle i chucked it, but if it's a full bottle, i always gave it and continue to do so with milk.

I've done it. With breast milk and formula. Nothing ever happened. I do change the nipple though, of course.

I always thought once they drank from it, it had to be finished within an hour otherwise it needed to be dumped?

I had thought the same thing and asked our pediatrician about it, when DS was born I was havng supply issues so he had to be supplemented, he was also on the super expensive formula. HE would often only have .5 - 1 oz of a 2 oz bottle.

She said in testing the bottles are still safe after being left out for 4 hours, athough she said to use 2 hours as a guideline and that if DS does not finish the bottle you can put it in the fridge and reheat it once within 24 hours.

Re: I need a quick answer to a formula question

i refrigerate all DS's bottles. if he takes a few sips from one and doesn't want it, IMO it's good for 24 hours from the time i made it (which is the timeline given on the can of formula i use - good for 24 hours in the fridge).

however, if it was left out for more than a few minutes i chuck it.
