I need step by step instructions on painting the kitchen cabinets
Do we have to degrease them? If so, what's the best way of doing it and with using what?
Do we then lightly sand them, prime them, and then paint them with 2 coats? They're older dark brown cabinets so it'll need 2 coats I think. How do you "mark" the cabinet doors and stuff so you know what door goes where, when you're painting them?
TIA!!!

I would clean the grease off with anykind of household cleaner that cuts grease.
Sand them down until smooth
prime
paint with a roller instead of a brush so get a smoother finish
if you aren't painting the back of the door, put a pice a masking tape on the door and number the door and the cabinet it came from.
You could also apply the tape to the handle, if the doors have handles
If you are painting the back of the door you will have to wait for the front to dry beofre painting the back, so you could use the same method as above using blue painters tape - just make sure the front it really dry before applying the tape

Re: I need step by step instructions on painting the kitchen cabinets
For sanding, use an electric sander - so much easier and quicker than doing it by hand (DH tried it that way).
We used Sherwin Williams paint and had very dark brown cabinets and didn't have to prime them first.

An electric sander? I thought you only had to lightly sand them? I don't have an electric one? Are they cheap?
What kind of Sherwin Williams paint did you use? That's the brand that we use as well. Thanks so much!

I posted on one of your other threads, I believe it was the Pro-classic - I'm not sure if it was the Alkyd or Waterborne Latex.
DH asked the people at the store and they had recommended it to him.
We used a small hand sander, DH was lightly sanding them by hand at first but, this saved him a ton of time. We borrowed one but, they cost approximately $30.

remember to number the cabinets. so that way they can be easily hung later on.
