I need training tips and advice please!

Lilly doesn't listen to a word we say. She won't sit, stay or come. When we try to pick her up if she is sitting, she bolts. The only times we can just freely pick her up is if she is in her crate or when she wants to be picked up and put on the couch. She is impossible to catch if there is only one of us in the house. We have been leaving her leash on if it's just Rick or I home alone.

She really needs to learn the basics. Since Rick can't catch her sometimes in the morning when I leave, she's had a few poo accidents in the dining room Chat Icon

Is this something we can tackle on our own, or should we look into hiring a trainer?

Does anyone have any training tips? I would really like to do this on our own.

(I think she has socialization issues as well, but that's a whole different post entirely!)

I like clicker training. It worked on 3 of our dogs. The other one is just stubborn & we had a rough time training.

Here is some info:

I have heard of clicker training and it seems to work. What I did with my puppy is, we use treats to get her to sit, stay, etc.. She is still learning, but she has 100% got the sit and stay thing down pat. You just need to be firm & consistent. You can't "punish" them every time they do not listen and especially do not put her in the crate for punishment because they will rebel even worse.

You just need to let them know who is boss ALL the time.

If things don't work and you want to look into training, Petco offers group and individual classes for the basics and I have watched some of these classes while in the store and seems to work wonders.

Good luck!
