this has been my question all along. So they cant be together in school but aftercare/daycare they can!!
makes 0 sense but you know what I am just over it.
they are going to do what they want even if it doesnt seem to make any sense to most.
kids are going to get screwed this school year and I feel terrible for them.
Hopefully by mid school year they will allow kids to be back to normal but I am sure that's a slim chance and it will be like this for the whole school year
And what is going to make the Sept 2022 school year any better? Will this go on for years? What is magically going to change in another year?
The vaccine. That’s apparently the answer. Once the vaccine is out we can all go back to normal!!
Yeah apparently. And if there isn't one? I don't think they ever came up with vaccines for other Corona viruses. Or what if it's not that effective? Is this how life will be forever? No more schools, no more sports, no more travel, no more Broadway shows? Well we had a good run I guess. Made it to 2020...

It doesn't make any sense. The children will suffer immensely.

Ah good! I always wonder about the volunteers who they use to test these vaccines. That takes balls!

I really hope that someone can explain how this makes sense
Here's my thinking about a vaccine...we have a December wedding planned and we don't feel confident in moving to 2021 like so many other brides.
People have been throwing out a January return to school because, again, of the promise of a vaccine in 2021.
This virus will not magically go away at the stroke of midnight on 12/31/20. The only reason people feel confident in moving their events like weddings to 2021 is because of the promise of a vaccine.
But my thinking is..there is no way that the supply for a brand new vaccine will keep up with the demand at the very beginning. And then if the supply is short, who gets it? Someone like me who is completely healthy (thank God), or someone who is elderly and/or sick?
Not to mention, those who will not be rushing to get a brand new vaccine with no long term studies done on effectiveness and side effects.
So do I think 2021 is the magic year for events to return with little to no restrictions because of a vaccine? Nope.

i dont either!! Esp. since I thought I read since Trump is pull us out of WHO that may delay the US from getting the vaccine once there is one. (Now no one get all bent out of shape if this is not true but i could sworn I read an article that said this)
This has me thinking all over again when will this end.
Are we really going to have to live like this for years to come because that's insane!!
Hopefully they find a way to treat it better and we can just move on vaccine or not!!

I know, that’s why I laugh so hard when people talk about this magic vaccine that will safe us all. If people like me who are pro-vaccines, get the flu shot religiously, are hesitant to take it, can you imagine that large population who are against it?
But let’s screw up our kids. Who cares, it’s for the safety of the world. None of it make sense and this is what I mentioned in the other threads countless times. Schools just need to regularly open because supplementing the reduce hours with daycare is the biggest oxymoron when saying this plan will contain the virus.

It's not safer. But, some parents do not have the option of being able to keep their children home on off days. He is offering an alternative if you NEED someone to watch your child. there aren't enough teachers to have every child in NYC in a 10 kid class 5 days a week. Just like he offered day care during the lock down to essential workers who couldn't stay home. Those who needed it, took advantage. It was easier then, because so many people were out of work or working from home. But, businesses are not going to allow everyone to continue to work from home, and people need to work. I am NOT being snarky- are you in NYC schools? Are you a parent who needs to have your children in school/daycare full time?
Valid question. I teach in Queens, however not for the DOE, in a Catholic school. But, my students won't benefit from this child care, so on their remote days, their parents will be on their own to find child care. My DH & I both work full time, so yes, we depend on full time school. FWIW, I have my doubts schools will even open hybrid, and if they do, it's only a matter of time before they shut again. So- what happens when you have a school system of 1.1 million children, now all of a sudden of home, and a majority of those parents have nobody to stay home with their kids? In March, everyone was home, unless you were an essential worker. So the enrichment centers worked. Now- far more people have returned to their jobs, meaning remote learning will be a far bigger problem now than it was in March. I don't know- there is no solution.
I agree with so many of your points- Parents are going to have to go back to work- what is going to happen to those kids? I count myself as one of the fortunate ones, I am able to work from home 100%. But, I do understand the other side and especially for teachers who are parents (two of my best friends are in this situation, so I see the struggle). My husband is an essential hospital worker and worked crazy hours and I was so scared during the height of the pandemic. I also have a DD who has an IEP and needs her extra help to really thrive. It's a horrible situation we are all in - SAHM, WFHM, FTWM- everyone is severely affected and there is no single solution. There are truly unprecedented times and I don't know what the right answers are. I think that all we each can do in this situation is make the right decision for our own family and try to be understanding of every family's individual decision.

That's because it doesn't make any sense at all. If kids are going to be ushered from one gathering to another anyway they may as well get an education while they're at it.

So the childcare in NYC will be free. That's wonderful for parents, but where is the money coming from?

Hundreds of children dying from the flu every year? It's a risk worth taking and no one bats an eye. Schools are flu epicenters every year and they don't miss a beat.
But even a single death from COVID is unacceptable. Collapse the entire structure and foundation of our society for years if we have to. No cost is too high to save every child from dying of COVID. But JUST covid. They can and still are dying for other reasons but we just don't talk about that.
Thousands of daycares have been operating with no outbreaks but that doesn't make the news, but post ONE article about ONE outbreak at a daycare and it gets shared 4 billion times.
I'm really just so grateful to have this website to tell me which scientists and news reports I'm allowed to believe.

You haven't heard? They will just keep printing money for all our needs for the next 2 to 5 years until the magic vaccine comes out.
