I see some of you banked "cord tissue"....
Can I ask what this does that is different than the cord blood?
We banked both DS's and DD's cord blood w/ CBR and I'm guessing at the time it wasn't something that was available to have done, as the company never mentioned it to me...
Now we are 21 days away from DC #3 and we think we are going to not bank this time around (because it seems like it may be overkill, though I'm still having some inner turmoil over NOT doing it
)
Is cord tissue something I should be looking into ?? Is it that different from the cord blood?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm not in the mood to call CBR right now and go through the whole spiel

I've never heard of banking cord tissue, just the blood. Maybe people are using the wrong word for it.

Re: I see some of you banked "cord tissue"....
What is Cord Tissue Banking?
CBR is the only bank in the U.S. to offer you the unique opportunity to save your newborn's stem cells from cord tissue. The cells in cord tissue are different from those found in cord blood and may help repair the body in different ways. Although there are no therapies using cord tissue cells today, saving both types of stems cells can give even more peace of mind for your family's future.
If you do not save your baby's cord tissue, it is discarded as medical waste.

Thank you Kristen...
I never even thought to check their site
So now that leaves me with the the decision, is it overkill to do this with baby # 3
Ugh, I really don't know what to do- Financially we will make it work if need be, but in the same breath we already have a plethora of cord blood that hopefully could be used if heaven forbid we were to ever need it

I banked cord blood for my first 2. Honestly they say that there are currently no therapies available today for cord tissue. Who knows how long the samples are even good for. I think you banked the blood for the first 2. I dont think you need to bank either for your 3rd.

Re: I see some of you banked "cord tissue"....
You're welcome! If it makes you feel better we're just doing the cord blood with future children. Since it would seem there is no use right now for the cord tissue I can't see spending the money to bank it. KWIM?

Re: I see some of you banked "cord tissue"....
we banked our little guys cord blood and tissue- the cord blood cells are blank cells that can be used for stem cells
the cord tissue cells can be used to 'regenerate' organ tissues

Re: I see some of you banked "cord tissue"....
there is a ton of research in cord tissue, but until someone knows how long tissue can be preserved I'm not going to invest in it.
They freeze this stuff, thinking it will last forever, who knows. At least with cord blood they know it has lasted 25 years, because they defrosted and checked.

Re: I see some of you banked "cord tissue"....
We banked DS' cord tissue.
DH did the research on it, and I think what impressed us is that they've already gotten to stage 3 trials--meaning, they've done clinical trials that showed real promise in making better (or hopefully curing) common diseases that afflict much of the population. They have shown VERY good promise in being able to help or possibly cure diabetes, arthritis, heart ailments...they think the promise for this is great.
That said...it's NOT a guarantee. But, we saw it as a potential life insurance plan. We have it in case we should ever need it. Hopefully we won't. But if they are able to do it and we have it, we will be glad that we do!
If you do decide to bank tissue, let me know because I can give you our reference number and I believe we would both get a discount on storage fees!

Out of curiosity, do you know if you can bank the cord tissue and not the cord blood
We already have the cord blood from DS and DD w/ CBR, so I "think" we are covered in the cord blood dep't, so I was wondering if they do it seperately and if so how much the fee would be for that
