I spend the weekend in ER - Intensive Care UPDATED
I was taken to emergency room on Friday evening...First time in my life I spend the night in a hospital room and in intensive care....
I had a life-threatening allergic reaction to nuts...My throat and my lungs closed...I could not breath or swallow..My blood pressure dropped to 80 over 30...They hooked me up to 10 monitors and gave me oxygen...I also received steroids, IV and a benadryl shot....It was scary....I only had one cashew nut, just one...they were organic from Whole Foods...I had nuts before and never had a problem... Doctors said because they were organic (pure) I had such a bad reaction....
They released me yesterday morning...I still can't believe this happened to me...In a few seconds my life could have been over...
This "little ordeal" made me realize how valuable life is and how I will cherish every minute of it....
I just wanted to add, that if this ever happens to you go to the hospital right away..do not wait for anything....not even ambulance....
UPDATE
Went to the doctor yesterday and he thinks that I am allergic to the BABY ASPRIN that I am taking and not the Nuts!!!! He thinks that the Nut triggered the reaction but with the symptoms that I had it was most likely a reaction to Asprin....we will know for sure if once my bloodwork comes back...
He said to stop the Asprin right away....He asked why I was taking it and I told him we were TTC and that I read it was good for women that are TTC....He said that I should have consulted my doctor first since a lot of women are allergic to it....and that it could do more DAMAGE then Good....
He is prescribed the EPI Pen which I need to carry at all times....

I have a question...since they gave me a steroid shot, will that affect my TTC??? Do steroids mess up your system?

So glad you are ok. So sorry you had to go through that .
Check with your doctor about the steroids. Some women are put on steroids to help them get/stay preganant but they are on a low dose usually. Sorry I am not much help

First of all thank goodness you are OK. I would also get to my Dr ASAP and ask for an epi pen. This is a single dose of epinephrin that could save your life and then teach anyone you are with on a regular basis to inject you. My nephew has life threatening food allergies and we ALL know how to use the epi pen. It could save your life in the future.
Steroids should not affect TTC as some women with recurrent pregnancy loss are given this but I would double check with your RE.

Thank you for the advice....I do have an appointment with an Allergist on Wednesday...he will probably talk to me about the epi pen....
Thank for the info on steroids...while in the ER they asked if I was pregnant I said "not that I know of" ( I am only 8DPO today) so they did a urine test before they could do my chest & throat xrays....as expected it was negative so they went ahead and did xrays...Oh well...My mom was with me and got a little disappointed when the nurses said it was negative....

I'm glad to hear you are okay and I agree with you on getting to the hospital right away. It's so important to get there asap and lot's of people don't realize that.

I'm glad you got the epi pen-it may save your life. As also for some test syringes(they are empty) you can practice on an orange. Also even though he said it was asprin you should probably stay away from nuts anyway.
