Re: I want to start investing in a Christmas Village but

You can wait until after X-mas and hit fortunoff, they have their houses 50% off then.

There are a lot of collections, do you know which you like? After that you can google whatever collection and start seeing where you can get the best price.

E-bay you can get some good deals. Def. try Fortunoff though after x-mas, everything is 50% off and last year I got about 8 pieces for 1/2 off.

Thank you. What is a good brand to buy? One that will be around for awhile so I can add on.

Re: I want to start investing in a Christmas Village but

I like the Department 56.
We started the Christmas in the City (because we knew we were leaving NY, and have places with memories and there is nothing like Christmas in NYC and wanted to remember that.)

Maybe go into the stores and see what collection fits your style and then search online.

Re: I want to start investing in a Christmas Village but

I have about 50 little houses that I have been collecting over the past three years...I go to Fortunoff's every year the day YES THE DAY AFTER Xmas and pick up a few 50% off....If you wait too long after Xmas you wont have as big a selection b/c they sell off pretty fast.

Re: I want to start investing in a Christmas Village but

I did this research last year and by far, Dept 56 was the most well known for variety and quality.

They have a bunch of different styles too, I do the Dickens Village and Snow Village. But you can mix and match.

There are just too many pieces to ever think you'll collect all of them. But eBay pretty much has whatever you could be looking for.

You just have to be careful you don't overbid for something you could get for less. Or use the 'Buy it Now' feature if it's available and worth it.

Also have 2 no-name pieces that are underneath our tree that we got as gifts. I won't get rid of them but I like putting the Dept 56 pieces together because the quality is so much better.

I love that! Michael's has a lot of cute ones similar to that style. I love love love their village pieces. They are very reasonable too and are 50% off quite often. I don't think you can shop online though.

I have one piece by Lemax that I got as a gift last year and wanted to get a couple of extra pieces, but Michael's had nothing left. I ended up getting a couple of pieces at Kohl's at the weekend. They are their St. Nicholas Square collection and are all 50% off right now. I think I like them even better than the Lemax.

Re: I want to start investing in a Christmas Village but

There are ALL different kinds of styles and prices.

My parents started me on a collection when I was little - Dept 56's Snow Village. I don't think they are that expensive, not insane at least. You can also find good deals in smaller china shops - some can be 50% off right after Christmas too which is a great deal!
