I would like help making a decison.... NO FIGHTS PLEASE!!

I am tossed as to what to do. The boys have there dr apt tomorrow. Im sure i will be asked about the flu shot. The boys will be 31 months (2 1/2) They are in preschool 3 days a week with 8 kids most of whom have older kids in school.

Would you do the flu shot? Im looking for honest answers. Not looking to start a fight, or aruements..... Thanks in advance to you all!!

I'd get it b/c they are in school and I know with my 2 it seems like every week at least one of them has the sniffles. Might as well protect against some flu strains if you can.

*Off to schedule my kid's flu shots which I keep forgetting to do*

i would...i am normally very cautious with vaccines, but being your DC are in daycare and knowing how kids get everything, i would do it. My DS is allergic to egg whites so he cant have it, but if it wasnt i would def give it to himChat Icon it's entirely your choice though Chat Icon no flames at all if you choose not to.

If they have any health risk or have had a lot of colds in the past and get sick easily then I WOULD give it.

DS got it for the first time last year at 18 months only because I DD and she was 3 months last Oct. He is in nursery and is the same age as your boys and in NJ it is mandatory for kids in daycare to get a flu shot so I think it is the same with schools so I gave it. DD on the other hand did not get it but will get it when she starts school.

Not sure if this helps at all, but my SIL has 3, ages 7, 5, 3 and the only one that gets a flu shot is the 3 year old because he is asthmatic and he is not in school.

Yes, I would give the flu shot. I have read about it and I still feel that the risks from the shot are less than the risks from getting the flu. I am sure that someone can argue about this but I've already made my decision and I'm stating my reason.

Absolutely!

Kristina has already gotten hers.... Even though she is cared for by myself, or my family, or my BFF.... I take her to stores and such with me, and anyone can be walking around with the flu (maybe not knowing it yet) and spreading the germs.

Better safe than sorry IMO!

I guess I am in the minority since I did not give DS the flu shot. He still will not get it even when he does start school.

I understand and respect that some parents at our daycare will not allow their child to have the flu shot and that some teachers will not get the flu shot...therefore I have decided that since I am not opposed to it I will have Lucas get the shot in hopes of preventing him from getting the flu this season.

When I sat down and thought about this the one thing that came back was that if I can't prevent other people from getting it and passing it along to my son...then I will take all of the options to prevent my son from getting it...and to me the only option in his situation was the shot.

In NJ it is mandated for all school children. Regardless, we have all always gotten one. Better than the alternative Chat Icon

Re: I would like help making a decison.... NO FIGHTS PLEASE!!

I've been struggling with this very question since September. DD will most likely be starting daycare in January, otherwise I wouldn't consider it.

With so much in the news about vaccines you are guaranteed to find at least ONE child in every single class that is unvaccinated for something. That fact alone pushes me in the direction of giving DD a flu shot. OTH the idea of giving DD a shot that is not mandatory doesn't sit well with me.

Kids these days are bombarded with enough stuff without adding chemicals that aren't required.

I wouldn't use the government's list of "mandatory" to determine what you think is right... I get the shot, as do DC and DW, but it has nothing to do with what the gov't says...

Yes. Both my kids are getting thier flu shots next Tuesday. I do it mainly because DS is in school all week and around plenty of kids. So DD gets it too just in case.

Re: I would like help making a decison.... NO FIGHTS PLEASE!!

DS tends to catch EVERYTHING and runs really high scary fevers- which in turn lands us a trip to the ER.

So to me- since he is in daycare, the flu shot is a good idea.

Re: I would like help making a decison.... NO FIGHTS PLEASE!!

we got it. It was mandatory in NJ for all children in preschool/daycare. We would have gotten in anyway. My son was sick too many times last winter and if I can avoid this one thing I'm thankful for it.

If it were me I would get it for them because they're in preschool. And you have 2. Double dose of germies. And then the other gets.

This is just me. I respect people who do not believe in flu shots because it is a personal decision. And if they get the flu I'd never say "i told you so". For me I'd just rather avoid it because i know my son will just about come home with everything else under the sun this winter.

Good luck!
