Besides washing & brushing the hair, is there anything else I can do to get rid of it? (Or at least minimalize the appearance of it)?
Is moisturizing not recommended?

Re: Ick...Cradle Cap

I think the doctor told me to massage Jared's head with baby oil before putting him in the tub. Eventually it went away.

That's what I do for Emma except I use Aquaphor on her head and then Baby Aveeno oatmeal wash.

Re: Ick...Cradle Cap

Baby oil and then combing it in the bath helps a lot. It may take a few times, but it does work. I would then just wash and rinse like normal.

The cradle cap kit is basically the same thing.

When you are combing the area over and over, it will get red but it's doesn't hurt them. It may be red/pink for a little while after the bath too.

Re: Ick...Cradle Cap

Exactly what Nancy said. My daughter had it and I put a small amt of baby oil on a very fine tooth comb and it worked like magic. Her scalp got red but it never bothered her. In fact, I did it while she was sleeping in the bouncy seat and she never woke up. Use as little oil as possible and add more as necessary.

I put Baby oil on his head then combed the flakes out right before his bath. After his bath I would put a tiny drop of baby oil again to help keep his scalp moisturized.

Julia just had a little bit on the top of her head, and I didnt put anything on it,(dont like oils) I just used a comb and took some of it off, and it all went away with in a few weeks.

You can also use olive oil if you prefer a more natural substance.

Barbara, I was actually thinking of Olive Oil, I don't even own any Johnson's oil, just organic stuff. I just wasn't sure if oil would leave a film/residue on her head.
Thanks for all the good advice ladies!!!!Chat Icon

You can also try to begin washing her hair in a different spot. I had always started in the front and that's what got the most soap. It was getting pretty bad. My mom told me to start in the back since it's much easier to rinse the back of their heads and sure enough within 1-2 weeks it was completely gone.

Dr said if we wanted we could try some head and shoulders but she was sitting upright at the time and I was too afraid of getting it in her eyes.

I used vitamin E oil instead because it washed out more easily...when i tried regular baby oil she looked like a grease ball for a couple of days.....I was able to comb all the flakes right out......they do come back again though....I think I did it like 3 times and then it went away for good

Selsun Blue? Im shocked. Just b/c my DH uses that and its pretty strong, I'd hate to imagine even a little bit getting in the baby's eyes. Try the oil, it really worked great.

Alex had it for a few weeks - after we bathe her I put a little bit of baby oil on her head and brush it... it went away within a couple of weeks.
