Re: If money weren't an issue would you have a nanny or daycare?

Even though she is the cheapest by a mile(why I don't question!), I would choose our in home day care provider every time.

She is just amazing and Grace loves her. I wouldn't want a nanny and the hassles that go along with it- like her asking for a raise every month(like my SIL nanny does).

ETA: I have the ideal hours for this situation. Even when DH is out of town and I have gto drop her off, I get to work on time and just have to leave on time when I go get her which keeps my priorities in check. I always worked too hard in the past(I am also a counselor at a high school and don't get anything for my extra time that I spend at work, like a raise or appreciation).

I would hire a nanny and also sign ds up for some "classes" where he could interact with other children, and the nanny could take him there. The only reason I say nanny over day care is germs. I wish I could afford a nanny!

Definitely daycare.... without a doubt in my mind... Cailen LOVES it, and hates being cooped in the house all day!

I would choose daycare. Carlie has been in daycare since she is 3 months old and i feel it has done wonders for her. She is very social and loves all the acticvities they provide at daycare.

I also like the fact that at daycare there are always at least 2 people inthe room. It is sort of a check and balances to make sure my DD is being treated right.

I had that choice and made the decision to use a nanny, and then have her take my children to preschool.

Unfortunately the hours we needed our nanny were not appealing to most, and we interviewed quite a few before finding one willing to take the job. After she quit we chose not to go that route again, and put our children in preschool for half the day and with a P/T sitter the other half.

I guess I wanted the best of both worlds. Now that my "baby" is 2, they are enrolled in full day preschool.

I would say daycare for all of the reasons that other posters listed...and one selfish one:

I love that the "teachers" rotate so that no one person is constantly with my son. It reduces any attachment issues in my opinion.

I would go with a nanny till she was about a year/18 months, and then put her in day care. I'd want her to have the one on one attention while she was very small.

I would do the same.

Jake was being taken care of by family until he was 18 mos. Even though there were 3 other children with him, it was definitely more one on one attention. But the changes I've seen in him since he started daycare are amazing. I love that he has a structured curriculum, physical activity and socialization.

With #2 I'd like to get a nanny for the first year and then switch to daycare. I don't know if we'd be able to afford that but that's what I'd like to do.

We had a choice - we can afford both, but we chose daycare.

I like that she's interacting with other children her age, that she has a structured ay filled with activities, and that she's learning to bond to various adults, not just one.

I've never second-guessed my decision - I'm thrilled with daycare, though I have to say, for convenience sake and scheduling, having a nanny probably does work better.

I would chose a home based daycare for the first 2-3 years and then a great daycare with a strong educational curriculum after that.

I want DD to be around other children.

I would want a nanny that I trusted to bring them to activities- like a Gymboree or library group.

I have a nanny. I believe it is best for DS to have one to one care at this point. When he gets older I def want to send him to a daycare so he can interact with other children and get involved in all the fun activities/curriculum.

I will keep my nanny for when #2 comes along! Chat Icon

There are DEF pros and cons to both childcare options.

I would Nanny 2x a week and daycare 3x a week, so that stuff gets done in my house and they get to play and be social with other kids at daycare.

Daycare. Having a nanny scares me way too much. I would be a nervous wreck. I trust no one.

Also I like the idea of being around other children.

Re: If money weren't an issue would you have a nanny or daycare?

I would deff. pick daycare therefore he would get to interact with other children, learn how to share etc. I don't think I would be able to have a nanny because I'm a jealous person and the thought of another woman getting to spend one on one time with my dc and having so much fun would kill me. It might be selfish of me but it's just how I feel Chat Icon

I feel like daycare would provide more stimulation but I think a nanny would be easier for me to get ready and leave for work in the morning

Re: If money weren't an issue would you have a nanny or daycare?

We have a nanny 2 days a week. It's great to have the extra time in the morning and not have to take her to daycare. Our nany has playdates with the other nannies in our neighborhood and they go to the park every day. I think the one on one attention is excellent for her (she's almost 5 months).

After the first year and a half, I think we'll switch to daycare.
