of course.

just like if a woman was elected, there'd still be not only concerns of, but real issues of, gender inequality.

I don't think it matters if he is elected or not...there will always be people who are looking for racism, and that will not change.

I don't think it's a matter of people looking for it...I think it IS out there. IMO...

To answer the OP, yes, unfortunately, I do believe there will still be inequality whether Obama wins or not.

That is b/c there are still very ignorant people in this country (and world) perpetuating hate.

I agree with what you're saying, but being in the field i'm in I see this everyday. I do not perpetuate hate, but it IS placed on me for who I am. It is what it is. It goes all ways. There will always be extremists in every race that can not just see people, but past decisions, and past issues. I think we are not as advanced as we might like to think. Racism is very real and very critical in this election. Maybe not in New York, but I can tell you many states and people that are dealing with this. This is not to flame but to express my view

if he's elected, I don't honestly see how many people who now would "play the race card" could.

what I mean is, people like Al Sharpton (insert puke icon) who VERY often play that card... how would he be able to make a compelling argument that America is racist when we have a black President. KWIM?

I don't think that would be the case.

that would be like arguing the intelligence of americans b/c our current president in a dunce. Chat Icon Chat Icon

if even ONE person left in america was racist, that means racism STILL exist. and as long as that one card is in the deck, it can be "pulled" rightly or wrongly.

ITA with all of this (did I really just say that??!! Chat Icon Chat Icon )

I really think it will take the wind out of the sails of that argument. There will no longer be the excuse of "I can't _________ because I'm black". If a black man can make it to the highest office in the country, that really does deflate that argument.

That said, I think we will take some REALLY big steps in the right direction if he's elected, but I still think there will be issues of racial inequality no matter how you look at it.

there will always be people who are racist or prejudice towards another group of people. whether it's blacks, Jews, Muslims, etc.

but people like Sharpton often lump an entire group of people together - like all NYPD are racist towards blacks.

I get what you're saying and yes, I'm sure there will still be people out there, like Rev. Al who will be looking to play the race card. Those kinds of people will always exist.

But in respect to racism in general and inequity, yes I think it will still be there and I don't mean "perceived" inequity but real bias.
