Spin-off to the Hillary/ Obama thread....
Why is it okay for people to make such nasty comments about Republicans, and it's considered acceptable?
Just curious

It's called righteous anger!
No, but seriously, I went to a hippie school in 8th grade and that was where I first heard the term republican used as an insult. :-P

I can understand being angry with Bush. I'm not defending him. But the sweeping comments are really getting a little ridiculous.

I think because so many people are so unhappy with the way the president and the former republican congress that they feel frustrated with republicans as a whole.

Re: Spin-off to the Hillary/ Obama thread....
I also want to add that the Republican aprty is a unit and can therefore be grouped as one. I don't find it difficult to find things to complain about in the Republicn party because their platforms go completely against my own values.
Just because I don't agree with the party and don't want to vote republicans into office doesn't mean I personally hate individuals who identify as republicans. I think that's an important distinction.

So then if one white person, or one black person does something negative to a group of people, its okay to break out the sweeping generalizations that all of them are bad? Isn't that prejudice/discrimination/racism? It all seems pretty ignorant to me.
i had issues with Clinton.. BUT, i would never make my comments about him directed at the WHOLE democratic party... Like i said.. i understand people's feelings about Bush... its not that many republicans don't feel the same way. But i think its getting ridiculous that people aren't focusing their comments on him, rather, they're degrading a whole group of people.

The Republican party is a unit. they are grouped together not by skin color or other ingrained things, but by values. A political party puts out a platform and puts itself out for scrutiny. If you go out there and you say "I stand for X, Y, and Z" you're opening yourself up to criticism, debate and public opinion.
It's not a PERSONAl thing, but based on the views of the party.

I'm not offended over people not agreeing with me. Really, i think your missing my point. I don't care if people say things about Hillary, i dont care if they says things about Bush, i don't care if they say things about any of the candidates... its the attacks at the PARTY that are offensive.

I don't get why race comes up as a comparision to republicans and democrats? I don't see the connection
